Hi Graeme,
I should be heading for Huntly (just along the road from Foggyloan),
within the next few days and can easily take a photograph of the
fountain for you. Just e-mail me your snail mail address privately
and I will send it to you when I have the film developed.
Incidentally, I too have the name Auchinachie somewhere on a branch
of my tree - an Alexander Auchinachie who married Elspet Murray at
St Joseph's Chapel Woodside Aberdeen in 1899 - any connection?

I recently photocopied two pages from the above register for a
friend and wondered if anyone was researching this parish and the
following names -
Grace Smith, Mary Cruickshank, Alex Cruickshank, Alex G. Hepburn
all from Garmond: Agnes Lobban from Woodtown: Bella J. Morrison,
Maggie Hepburn, Henry Spence, Lily Spence and Alex V. Fyfe from
Garmond: Catherine Anderson, Mary Ann Watson from Cuminestown:
Ethel Gammie from Newton of Millfield, James Barnet from
Cuminestown. William Fentie, Scotsbrae: Jemima
I recently came across the following information on a General
Register of Poor -
"He served in various stations with Royal Scots Labour Corps &
R.W.N/C ?? from 31/3/96 to 19/9/19. He did not leave an allotment
to anyone and has been in Aberdeen since discharge."
Does anyone know what the Royal Scots Labour Corp & R.W.N/C was?

Although the Monquhitter register starts in 1899, your grandfather
may well appear on it if he had attended another school prior to
that. There was a school at Greeness, but I am sorry I don't know
when it was founded - it closed a few years ago.
Most children started school at the age of 5, but some did go to
school when they were only 4 years of age.
You can see the Monquhitter school register at The Town Archives,
Dunbar Street, Aberdeen - open Monday - Wednesday only and by
appointment.

William Grant LL.D. was born in 1863 in Elgin, MOR, the eldest son of Robert
Grant, a surveyor, and Christina Fraser. These Grants originally hailed from
Sheuglie in Glenurquhart, INV. William became a noted Scottish linguist and
was a founder of the Scottish National Dictionary. He died in 1946 in
Aberdeen and I am unsure if he was married. I would love to hear from
anyone who has come across William Grant or the names of his publications in
their Aberdeen/generalScottish reading.

I understand that the Christian names of Donald and Daniel are often
interchangeable. I'm wondering if one of the names may be more formal
than the other or if there is a particular reason for this. Can anyone
elaborate...this would help me a great deal with my research.
Thank you in advance.

Researching George RUSSELL of the farm of Wester Bauds, Orbliston, [Moray]
who married Mary Jane PIRIE of 22 Constitution St. , Aberdeen on 24 Dec.
1904 at the Royal Hotel, Bath Street in Aberdeen. George [32] was a farmer
and bachelor; Mary Jane [24] was a "Gromonger Bookkeeper" and spinster. I
would like to know more about her parents; William PIRIE, master
cabinetmaker and Margaret SIM PIRIE. And what is a "Gromonger bookkeeper"?
When George died in 1938 at Westerbauds, Fochabers, district of Urquhart,
George Mitchell(Shipmaster) was baptised 24 Apr 1808 in Aberdeen by Bishop
Skinner in the presence of Alex Hall, Shipbuilder and Robert Bruce,
Shipowner. His father was William Mitchell and mother, Sarah Sangster
(married I believe in Peterhead 12 Feb 1804) I'm looking for any information
about William & Sarah, where they lived and when they died. Perhaps anyone
working on SHROUD may have the some details. Can anyone help please?

Hi all,
I have family buried in two cemeteries in the Aberdeen area, St.
Peter's Parish Church, and Drumoak . Can anyone tell me how I
would go about contacting the caretakers of these places? I'd like to
see what info the cemeteries have on file and if someone is keeping up
these graves: ie: flowers, flags etc...
Thanks, Lisa
Hello there,
Several generations back, my wife's ancestors lived near Raemoir on a
croft called(phonetically) "Cairney Whin". Would anyone care to take a stab
at translating that name into American English?
Hoping to hear from someone.

I am searching for information on the Monro and Shanks famiies in Aberdeen..
Donald Monro married Isabel McKenzie 23Oct 1817 in Old Machar, Aberdeen.
Donald was listed as a "servant" on his son's marriage certificate.
He had at least one son, William.
Is Old Machar a Parish? a town? I can't find it on a map.
William Shanks married Jane Rose 24 Aug 1832 in Aberdeen, Saint Nicholas,
Aberdeen.
William was listed as a deceased flaxdresser in 1865 when his daughter, Mary

Hi, all,
I, too have a Daniel/Donald. My 3x great uncle was Daniel LINDSAY, born in
Tulliallan, Perth in 1838, and in the 1851 census, the census taker listed
him as Donald. I thought the census taker just didn't hear correctly. It's
interesting to note now that it seems to be a common enough exchange.

This message is to Arthur McGregor of New Zealand!
Arthur,
I am interested in your McGregor ancestors, as i am descendant of Mary
MacGregor, who is believed to be the daughter of Rob Roy MacGregor, or
as known here in the States, as Edmund MacGregor...she is found in
Henrico Co., Virginia, in the early 1600's, she married my ancestor
grandfather John Gannaway who was from England!
Do you have this in your lineage?
