Thanks for your EMail.
My message was in response to an enquiry by Lisa Elliott who is researching
BURNETT, but it was good to hear from you.
If I've correctly interpreted the family tree you and my wife share the
same GG grandparents, Thomas CHRISTIE & Ann BURNETT.
I took a look at your web page and found that you had very similar
information to my own (in reality my wife's) on the CHRISTIE line.
I have 12 children born to Thomas CHRISTIE & Ann BURNETT. The additional

Hello Peter,
My apologies for the delay in answering your query, but I have
just returned from the Rayne area.
If you would like to write directly to me, I can give you some
information on the Leslie family and also a little about Walter
Davidson.
Kind regards,
Marina

Hi,
I checked for the name Farney and had no luck.
I also checked for Gillighan in Ireland and Scotland and had no luck.
Unfortunetely these records are not complete.
Sorry, I had hoped to find something,as someone had find something for
me. But will check for others as needed.

I wonder if someone would be kind enough to do a look-up for me in the
archives or records. I want to find out about a marriage of ALEXANDER
BRANDS to ANN(E) MACAULAY in November 20, 1873. The marriage took place
in Falkirk, Stirlingshire I believe. If someone could look up the
marriage, then I could find out their occupations at the time, and
address and parents names of ANN MACAULAY (which I believe I already
have but need to confirm).
Also does anyone have any ideas about the following:
ANN MACAU
Keith,
My 3 great grandma, Janet TOUGH (or var) came from Aberdeen (or possibly
Dundee) according to her grandson, my ggdad's brother, who wrote abt the
family in the 1901 POTTS family book. She was the dau of a Pres minister. I
have searched the IGI and find the only TOUGHs listed in Aberdeen, so I
figure that's the place! Using Scot naming patterns, I guess at Alexander
TOUGH for her father, Christian MATTHEWSON for her mother. Now all I need is
proof! ;)))

I have 2 questions to pose for the group. My family was born either in the
St. Nicholas or the Old Machar areas in Aberdeen. Can anyone tell me what
church(es) served the area? Is there a book of monumental inscriptions
available for whatever church(es) they might have intended? Many of the
family appear in the OPR (from 1720 on), so I am assuming they were
associated with the Church of Scotland, although I am not sure about what
happened with them after the schism.
The other question is this. I know
Hi Everyone
Would anyone know of any ships leaving Scotland around 1858. My great
great grandfather George Jaffray left home in this year and saw active
service in the Russian war. Would there be a list showing embarkation on
any ship or boat.
Your help would be appreciated.
Kind Regards
Grahame James (Australia)
Thanks to everyone who sent me messages in reply to my post. If I have
not responded individually off list please do not think I am not
interested, I am just overwhelmed.

Hi Aberdeen List Members
I'm looking for my ancestors and any relatives we might have based in the Aberdeen
area (I know, the usual request!).
My GGfather is Robert McFenton who was born in Aberdeen 1859, his career as a
Mariner took him all over the world (we know this because we have his old shipping log).
He settled down long enough on dry land to marry in 1892 Jessie Harris of Swansea ,
South Wales. He seemed to be a man of very few words because he didn't pass down
any information about his
My family also left Aberdeen in 1920 and I could not find the ship -
finally found them coming from NSW Australia to Wellington, NZ, on the
'Manuka' in October 1920 - but I still have to find them leaving Scotland
and arriving Australia!!

If nobody can do the look-up for you, try the A&NESFHS they will
do a look up for you and are extremely inexpensive.
Kind regards from sunny Queensland, Australia.
Gail,
Are you ever lucky! Or persistent, or whatever! I hope I have some of your
great luck, I am surely persistent! Looking for TOUGH (or var) in the
Aberdeen area.

Hi Aberdeen List Members
I would like to start by thanking all the kind people who have given me their help and advice in the last few days, in search for my GGrandfather Robert McFenton b1859
and his possible Aberdeen connections.
Unfortunately things are not looking good at the moment, the main obstacle being there is no record of the surname McFenton anywhere in Scotland between 1855 and 1900. This is difficult to fathom because I have his Board of Trade certificate of Discharge as
a Seaman, which
Greetings to all who search,
I am looking for family connection to James Lendrum who immigrated from
Monquhitter Parish, Aberdeenshire to America circa 1690's. James also
had a brother John (unconfirmed at this date). Any information would be
most appreciated.

I am new to this list and just found my great great grandmother and
grandfather in Scotland. ANN GERRARD m. JAMES ROBB on the IGI. This
marriage was listed twice, once in RATHAN, and then the same marriage and
date in FRASERBURG. Do you think one was a civil marriage record and the
other a church record? Ann GERRARD was born in TYRIE, Aberdeen, Scotland.
They had three children that I know of. James, Elizabeth, & Ann. All born @
1850's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Howard,
I read with interest the fact that you are a member of the Great North of
Scotland Railway Association as I thought that you may be able to help me.
My great grandfather,James DUTHIE worked on the railways in Aberdeen as a
railway engine driver and/or as a railway plate layer. In 1897 he was
killed in a railway accident just before my grandmother was born. My great
grandmother got some sort of a payout and opened a sweet shop in Aberdeen.
What I want to know is are there any records within yo

I too have a Nicol ancestor and read your emails with interest. My ancestor
is MARGARET NICOL, born about 1818, possibly at Hillocks, Udny. She married
John Allen who also, I beleive, lived at Hillocks Udny. Their daughter
MARGARET ALLEN was born in 1840 at Hillocks Udny. (I think Hillocks is a
name of a farm but not sure). I wondered if My Margaret could be the
daughter of George as the date would be about right.
Other names I am researching are H
