ACGS Volunteers help distant members with primary records
An ad hoc committee of volunteers has been formed to help distant members
obtain primary records from our Drouin digitized collection. If the event
locations and dates are known, members can send in a list of events of which
they would like to have the primary record. Our volunteers will retrieve the
images of the records and place them on a CD or print out the event and mail
them out to the member. For more details, visit our web page,

At this time of year I think a lot of us take a moment to stop and think
about how important our family & friends are... the people on this list
are both for me... this has been a difficult year for many of us, in
many ways, but now at the end of the 2005 I wanted to take a moment to
tell all of you how privileged I feel to be part of this list. Not only
the genealogical assitance, but the warmth and support in other ways,
are things I have to be very thankful for this year.
I just want to wish all

Duhon Funeral Home book good Acadia Parish source
By Damon Veach
Special to Magazine
The body of work from Pointe de l'Eglise: Acadia Genealogical and Historical
Society, Inc. continues to grow. Their latest publication is Funeral Record
Abstracts, Duhon Funeral Home, Volume I, 1971-1996." Data in this first volume
has combined the material obtained from the Church Point, Rayne, and Crowley
branches of the funeral home.
Lucie...
That is really inspirational... both genealogically and personally!
Family is so important... which is why most of us are involved in this
hobby! Have a beautiful holiday season, I know this new discovery will
really bring a lot of joy to your family.
cheers,
Gordon

Commentaries on some Avoyelles Families
According to the book by Gremillion, the Jean Baptiste Bordelon family was the only Bordelon family at Le Herge, France? Is this true for all of France at the time? Was this name created at this time?

Morning,
In this record, [ASC-2, 69] Edouard GAUDIN [also written as Landry Edouard]
[parents not given] married 27 Jun 1796 Marie Magdelena LANDRY, widow of
Baptiste LANDRY [parents not given]. Marriage witnesses were Joseph Ephrem
Landry & Joseph Nicolas Landry. [DOBR, v.2, p. 310] would anyone happen to
have found the parents of both Edouard GAUDIN and Marie Magdelena LANDRY
were. Any help would be appreciated.

Don, Lucie et all;
The article was found and posted re: Jean Claude Landry being a mythical person.
Now, if you see a site that has the myth in type on their website as truth - please contact them to remove it and update their site so that it's accurate information they're sharing. In working together on this perhaps we can prevent the myth from rearing it's head continually.

You can't!!!!!!!!
If you find something please share so we can give to Stephen White. See DGFA v1 p 221-222
It is so important to remember we do NOT have Acadian church records, that would give parents origions, from 1630 to abt 1705. And after that we only have partial records.
There are only a hanful of famlies that we can trace back to Europe.
So many people want to take it back but there is no proof.
This is like Jean Claude Landry & Rene Le Blanc
Please ask where you got that info & I bet they

We keep finding family as well just by putting messages out on various
lists. I have not been able to find any of my LeBlanc Cousins though. I
would love to know more about them and the Caissie's in my recent lines.
Laurent Caissie married Marthe LeBlanc. I don't know much about them beyond
that. My grandmother who was their granddaughter left home at age 16 and
never returned home. We know so little about that line. But I never give up
hoping.

Hi List Members,
Does anyone happen to know if there were children born of the second
marriage of Paul Bourgeois b. abt 1707 in Beau Basin (Claude & Anne Blanchard) m.
2nd. abt 1749 Madeleine Cormier (Pierre & Marie Anne Cyr).
His first marriage was to Marie Josephe Brun
Children of this marriage were:
1. Pierre Paul
2. Marie Josephe
3. Joseph
4. Anne-Marie
5. Michel
6. Scolastique
7. Pierre (Pedro)
8. Jean Baptiste
This is for a cousin who use to be on the list but is sick and had to drop
off.
while it isn't proof, there are/were several Indians, Mi'kmaq, and Abenaki,
who took the name Baptist. I think it is safe to assume that that would also
apply to the Cree and other Native groups that became baptised. Often it had
been the name of the mother's father or oldest brother. The woman used it as a
last name , and for family identification for the Church and census.

Interesting! I have a collateral branch of Pelletiers, one of whom married
a Poirier, that moved from Rimouski to Stillwater Minn, then to Fall River.
A Poirier daughter married into an Alsatian Jung-Young family which had been
involved in locking out several priests in Buffalo.

Seth Hanchett [Hanchet, Anchet, Anchette] was on the 1820 census in the over
age 45 category. The family is in the SW LA records. Seth was married to
Marguerite Leonard. Their first child in Louisiana was born in 1783.

It is not on my map The ones I have in that area
Start in White Castle on LA 1 between Francis St & Doc Dean St is an
unidentified Cemetery
Continue on LA1 to Hwy 69 / Bowie St. Left 1/2 mile to Moss St. Right to
Our Lady of Prompt Sussor Cemetery
The next street back from Moss is Church St. I would check it out for
inactive ones.
Continue heading toward River until LA 1. Left than less than 2 miles
to St John Baptiste Cemetery in Dorseyville.
Take Lacroix Rd to River Road Hwy 69/405. Le
