The terrible lost of lives from the Tsunami highlights why the deaths of
many ancestors aren't recorded.
Many Acadian records have been lost to history. A few examples:
The British destroyed many records as the Acadians were exiled.
The Acadians buried some church registers in Grand Pre thinking that
they would return soon. These were lost to history. It is thought that
some of the Grand Pre records that were smuggled out of Acadia and
turned over to the priest at St. Gabriel were destroyed as a resul

your email was very interesting and moving. Would it be possible to tell us
some of the things that happened to you and others re the English fear and the
Official language Act, so that those of us that were not there could
appreciate it? Not to start an anti English slam, but in the interest of history, I
would like to know more about what you folks went through.

The arrival of the Acadians in Louisiana can be dated from the settlement of
Salvador Mouton, his nephew, Jean Diogene Mouton, and their families. They
are believed to be the first to reach here in the mass migration that would
eventually bring two-thirds of the survivors of the Acadian exodus to
Louisiana.

Louis J. Robichaud, New Brunswick's Liberal premier between 1960 and 1970,
has died. He died of cancer Thursday in hospital near the village of

Robichaud was New Brunswick's first Acadian premier and was a member of the

Known as "Little Louis'' to many New Brunswickers because of his short
stature, he is perhaps best remembered for introducing the province's

that became St. James a year before the next Acadians passed by on their way

Hi, would someone who has access to the DOBR please do a look up for me?
I was kindly given possible parents for my Dositea (Osite) LANDRY-m- Joseph
CASTILLE, but the dates for these parents do not seem correct to me.
The Osite given to me was born on May 5, 1743 and was the daughter of Jean
and Claire Olive LEBLANC. But Claire's birthdate of 1695 would have made
her 58 when giving birth to Osite? Maybe a typo?
Thank you, BG

I've incorporated all of my posts re arrival dates in the last few days
into my Arrival of the Acadians page at:
http://www.thecajuns.com/acadians.htm
I had most of the information there but I've revamped to explain the
discrepancies in numbers and provided the source documents.
The information, in conjuntion with sacramental records, should be
useful in determining arrival dates in-between the various census
records. For example, my ancestor Etienne LeBlanc wasn't with the
February 1765 Acadians. Altho

As you may or may not know, Logan City received, through donation, the
resources of the Everton Library (approximately 80,000 books, periodicals, etc).
There IS a room available in the new City building and funds available in Logan
Library's budget to prepare the room to house the collection and make it
available to the public. However, there is some concern among city council members
whether the public will really use the collection if it is made available.

Hi Don and Alice,
I found the Quebedeaux e-mail very interesting. My husband, through his
maternal side, has a Begnaud line. One of the Begnaud uncles and a Begnaud
aunt married Quebedeaux's. In the e-mail below it has Zean-Senon Quebedeaux
married 1817 Emerante Marks. I have his wife as Delphine Larne. Could this
be a 2nd wife or do I have wrong information? I don't have a source..
Also, the e-mail below list Charles Quebedeaux's wife as Marie-Catherine

Hi Andy,
