1. Re: [AFHS-DISCUSSION] FW: UK Research [1]
I am connected to a number of UK based genealogists. Don't recognize this particular woman, however, that doesn't mean she isn't genuine, but I wonder that she is a hobbyist who is offering to assist rather than someone who is accredited to conduct research. Thanks Christine, I went back and checked. The fellow I am researching was born in 1861 and died in 1893 not 63. So in 1879, he would have been 18 and could attend Royal University of Ireland. I had the 9 in the year he died upside down! 10. Re: [AFHS-DISCUSSION] FW: UK Research [1]
Our family had a genealogist in UK to search for military records and we had checked credentials first. It wasn't this woman and seven years seems a bit light but everyone has to start somewhere. Maybe ask for references first from former clients before you do decide to use her. Thanks for the responses. This is all new to me though I have looked at land titles in other provinces, with different systems. My understanding was that you should start this search at a registry office as they will access whatever is available online and then will go to the land titles office for the older things. I am working with a person in a registry office here in Calgary and she has been very helpful. She has tried to get more information for me by calling the person who does the historic

Kay is right. Another great source are the Henderson and other street directories, phone books and voters' lists. I used these plus land titles to put together the history of an address in Calgary from late 1800s to 1950.
