Sue,
If your grandmother was the first women in some places, that should have

An extensive explanation of what's available in archives of the Belgian

Hi Sue
I am struggling to find records, as a branch of my family also landed there.
They would have arrived a little later than the time frame mentioned by you,
but my family have noted that the red cross held some records through which
they traced a lost step-sibling. I have not yet checked how extensive the
red cross records are, but believe that it would be the red cross in
Belgium. Please let me know if you find out more, as I want to get hold of
them too. I am busy preparing for 2 of my children's
Hello
Can you tell me if there are any records of owners, managers, staff and workers of plantations 1900-1910?
I am trying to trace a woman - my grandmother - who was in the 'Belgian Congo' as the family story goes. She left around 1914/15.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello
I am still looking for information about Lily WESTON (my grandmother) born 1895 England, travelled to Congo around 1910 as a teenager - perhaps later - with an older man.
The man was said to be plantation manager/owner/worker in the Congo. The man died a few years later.
Lily boarded a ship to leave. War (WW1) had broken out, so this was 1914 or later.
Lily's ship caught fire when it left Africa, but everyone was rescued. (I have seen a newspaper cutting but do not have it.)
I understand Lily d
