Hi All
I would like to find out the cause of death of Frederick Noel COLLINS
who died in Inhambane on 29 September 1907. He was an engineer at the
Inhambane sugar mill. Can anyone advise on how to obtain a copy of the
death certificate? I would be willing to pay for any reasonable costs
that might arise.

Hello,
I have just joined your list. I am attempting to trace my son-in-laws
father's family. As I have only done reseach in England, New Zealand,
Canada and Australia this will be a challenge for me, as I do not spreak or
read Portugese. Also attempting to do his Mother's family, who are from
Portugal.
Would someone please explain the basic's of genealogy research in
Mozambique. He was born at Vile prey, Chimoio.

Hi,
I am an artist living and working in Johannesburg, South Africa. I
have an art project called The Lost Men Mogambique which is a
travelling out-door, site specific, memorial installation which began
at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, South Africa in 2004.
In Maputo, it is to be installed on the Catembe Ferry Jetty.
For the project, I am trying to find the names of men (and boy-
soldiers) who died in the civil war in Mogambique. Up until now, the
project team have found it impossi

My grandfather Guy Lance GARRETT died at this place in
Feb 1923 of Blackwater Fever, subsequent to 3-4 months of Malaria.
I have original letters from the Mine Manager E W Jackson (or Jacobson)
telling of Guy Garrett's early death at the Hospital, plus a letter from the

event.....
How far distant are these two places please, and of what size might the
British community have been at that time?
Thanks for any information.

Usually, people born in the old Portuguese Colonies might have been
registered locally since they would be considered Portuguese citizens, but
they would also be registered in the British Consulate in Lourenco Marques
(Maputo, presently). I would suggest you start by contacting the British
Embassy near where you are and they might tell you where to write to.
I just checked the Genealogy site of the Mormon Church
http://www.familysearch.org/ and found out that they do have, in microfilm,
the records

Hi Maureen
I never attempted to ask for any document from one of the old Portuguese
colonies. You could maybe try to contact the Mozambican Embassy and/or
Consulate in your area. They might know how to get you the paper you want.
Chimoio was called Vila Pery during the colonial era, as you know. The
Portuguese had Civil Registration Offices and I am sure there was one in
Vila Pery, since it was a fairly large city. However, I do not know what
has become of those offices if they still exist or if they
I am also new to this list and I too have some interest in finding out
how to obtain documents from Mozambique. Unfortunately I don't have any
idea of where to start (location-wise). I am trying to track a George
Mossop (my sister-in-law's great uncle) who was born in Durban, South
Africa in 1861 and who moved to Mozambique (parts unknown) about 1914
and he died there in 1938. I suppose that I could try to send for a
death certificate but I don't even know where to start in terms of town

Hi All
I had a similar problem with a death in Inhambane, Mocambique, in 1907.
I tried all the obvious ways to get a death certificate then someone on
this list suggested trying the British records. Apparently if the
deceased was not a Mocambique citizen the death was often also recorded
with the relevant embassy or consulate. In my case the death was in the
Consular records in Britain. Within two weeks I had a certified copy of
the Death Certificate.
See below for a copy of two emails sent to me by th
Hi! Greetings from Perth, Western Australia.
The man I am researching, Charles Ferdinand ZABEL, was working for
'Mozambique Industrial Commercial Company Ltd., Beira, Portuguese East
Africa.' when he died on July 15th 1921.
How/where do I find his death certificate?
Kind regards,

Please contact the British Embassy in Maputo, Mozambique. They keep info on all the British subjects that either were born or died there. For a nominal fee you might be able to get birth and death certificates for the people you are looking for.

Hi Everyone
I'm researching my Great Great Grandmother. I'm away that she died in around 1917 in Mozambique. She ran away to Africa with her lover who was a Cunha. I'm not sure if she would've remained a Pires or changed it to Cunha. If anyone knows of where I can search for information on this please let me know. I have hit a brick wall in researching this area.
Thank You

Hello Listers,
I have just joined this list and am researching my great grandmother's
alleged connections with Mozambique. Her name was Ann MARCUS or MARQUES and
according to my grandfather's marriage certificate she was born in Lourenco
Marques (now Maputo), Delagoa Bay, Mozambique (circa 1850s?) and family oral
history says she was of Portuguese descent. She subsequently married my
great grandfather, Abel POWELL, (born England) sometime in the late 1800s in
South Africa. Her marriage to Abel may have bee
