The " Addressbooks of DSWA (Deutsch Sued West Africa)" are books which shows
the addresses of the people living in SouthWest Adrica.
My oldest Adress book is from 1808, but it is the 8. Edition, which mean,
that the first Address book did come out in about 1901
Today the equivalent is basically the telephone book ore the "Yellow Pages"
book. In this time they only included the Address, or the Farm.
Later they included the P.O.Box and the telephone numbers.

Searching for any info on Krause family from Windhoek. My grandfather Max Krause had a trading store ( Krausestore) in town. He had 4 daughters, Hertha, Erna, Hilda, Erica. They lived on a small farm on the outskirts of the town at a place called "Gammams"or something like that.He and his wife both died in Windhoek during the 1950's.
I would be eternally greatful for any leads.

Hi Ines, thank yo for the info, my one cousin, Rosita will be coming to SA later in the year, she has a box of stuff from her mother, Erica (nee Krause). Lets hope I can find some more info there.

Marvellous to see someone on this list which seems to suffer from inertia
and I cant think why.
I have got most of my info about SWA from google Lots about the history and
the shopping lines and settlements.
You're right the Archives don't seem to help. And do we have two
administrators?

Is there any way one can get hold of ship's lists from the Woermann shipping line. I understand that virtually all Germans who arrived in Namibia from the late 1800's came on ships owned by this company.I can't find anything on the net, other than a referance that a lady in Namibia (no name) has done extensive research in this area. In fact, to find any thing on the net about family archives in Namibia seems virtually impossible. One cannot even acess their National Archives anymore! Any advice?

Manaia there are so few on this list and those who are speak both languages
and Afrikaans comes naturally to most. So we can follow.
What names are you researching? You can see Petrus has listed his names and
most list administrators start the ball rolling by contributing.
I asked you once before about your names. They are distinctly Polynesian
Pacific. What is your connection with SWA?

Hi Innes,
I'm looking for my grandparents, Max Krause and his wife who must have arrived in SWA before 1916.I'd be grateful fo any help as I am fairly dumb, both with computers and researching, having only recently started. The fact that I'm over 60 doesn't help either!

Thank you very much, Ines.
I hadn't thought to look in Ancestry for this information. I have found my
ancestor, on a passenger list, and in an address book. My local Family
History Society has a subscription to Ancestry.co.uk, but I'm not sure about
Ancestry.com.
I will go and try now...if they don't, I will get back to you with his name
and details.
I couldn't find the Passenger lists in the Hamburg.de site. Do they contain
any extra info? If so, where are they?
Thanks again
Best wishes

Hi Innes,
I'm only guessing here, but my oldest aunt was born around 1914. Assuming my grandparents were about 20 at the time, that gives their date of birth somewhere around 1896 or earlier, my grandfather possibly being 3-5 years older than my grandmother. Sorry about the lack of info, I hope my one cousin is going to be able to dig up some better info.
Rega
I have found the Ancestry entries for my ancestor.
There is one from
Kolonialdeutsche'im In- und Ausland
I am assuming this is a list of Germans in the colonies, in this case South
West Africa.
The address given is
Berlin SW, 29, Jutterboger Str. 9 (S.W.A) (There is an umlaut on the u but
I can't do that on my laptop.
Does anyone know where it is?
Stupidly I did not look for the date of this publication. According to the
passenger list he emigrated in 1911.
I know he later returned to Germany.
