Dear Dee
There is a couple living on the Isle of Man now from Zimbabwe. They are
named POWERS and are about the right age. The last time I saw them was
about nine years ago. Do you want me to check out this possibility?

My telephone book lists one BJ Powers 32 Morayshire Gardens, Borrowdale,
Harare. Telephone Number (63) 883.250 good luck. If not you will have to
ascertain from the Masters Office if an estate File has been opened for him
between 1994 and 2004 - they can do this quite quickly. Write or phone.
Address in website archives - I have listed it before.

Herbert PHILLIPS had property in Rhodesia at end of 18th century. His daughter Maud ROWLEY and sons Robert Lawrence, Walter Hugh, Henry Clarence went to live there after 1900. These were from his first marriage.
Herbert Phillips' second wife was Annie Elizabeth. She is thought to have died in Africa about 1900. Could anyone please advise if there is any way of finding out about her death?
Many Thanks

Dear List
I have worked for six years in amongst other the Government Archives in Cape
Town, have last year completed a book on the history of the Vosloo-family
etc. I have been conducting a course in family history in our local library
for the past 12 years. I am at present busy preparing a CD version of the
course. Where can I get information on the basics of research in Zimbabwe?
I also want to add the names and contact details of people who are willing
to undertake commercial research in Zimbabwe in
Hallo Gilly,
Contact the Genealogy Institute of South Africa (GISA), a mrs Maureen de Villiers, they have copies of some death notices for Zimbabwe, they do charge a fee - which I think is minimal, and she might be able to help you.
Her address is mdv@sun.ac.za

Trudging through months of list messages, I've just come across this one.
I have quite a few photos of the ORPENS...and other friends of my grandpa.
Grandpa was Francis Henry Steinau LEE.
Here's a list of those in one album (all between 1900 - 1915 so a bit
earlier):
1) J. M. ORPEN (portrait)
2) Mrs. J. M. ORPEN (portrait)
3) Mr & Mrs Orpen, Salisbury 1902 (interior scene)
4) Mrs Claude ORPEN & her son, Mrs ORPEN, Mrs A. HOLLAND nie Madeleine ORPEN
& her son Douglas (informal group in garden)
5) Mr & Mrs
Many Thanks Trudy
I'm trying immediately ... another route to follow always gives me hope.
Fingers crossed!
Regards
Gilly
