The list server for many of the lookup lists has been down, Molly, but
certainly not for two weeks.
The only thing I have from you for the Alabama list is two requests for what
appears to be the same James Newbill in 1930 Mobile County, and no one is
finding him indexed. Your first request was posted on July 3rd and the
second on the 4th, and that's all that has come through so far.
Sorry.

Hello,
I am trying to find (need a lookup for) Elijah L. BROWN and his family on
the 1880 AL Census. They lived on the TN / AL border and I am not sure which
county they would be in, but it may be either Limestone, Lauderdale or Madison
Co. AL.
Elijah L. WILLIAMS married Catherine PARTIN 5 Sep 1865 in Giles Co TN.
The known members of the family are Elijah (also spelled Eliga) L. BROWN,
his wife Catherine and daughter, Magnolia (Maggie) C. BROWN (b abt 1871). I
would like to know the name,
I found an online source for the 1910 Henry County, AL census. My
question...a lot of the pages are impossible to read because of how faint
the writing is, is that the way it actually is or is my source just bad?
Thanks,
Kathy

Hi John,
You did a surname (Polescheck) search for me a while back on this MD list and
this is the family I was looking for. I just now was able to find them in the
census records. This is my mothers great grandmother from Germany (Annie) .
Katie is her grandmother and sometime right after this 1900 census they moved
to Jackson Co,Mississippi/Mobile Co.,Al area. I'm not sure if all of them moved
but I suspect they did. My mothers grandfather Edward Ladnier from Jackson
Co,MS married Katie in abt. 19
There are several subscribed that do look ups. However there is no
assignment for anyone to do the look ups. I do a few that are in the areas
of Alabama that interest me. Might be the way you write your request. Watch
the list. Look at the answers, and read the requests that caused that person
to answer the rerquest. Use a couple of them to write your request and you
may have better results.

112 Hobbs indexed in the state - one Henry Hobbs, age 3, in Madison County.
No JO or Arvilla/Avrila/Avila anywhere in the state.
Sorry I wasn't able to help. Hopefully someone else on the list will have
better luck.

Hey Everyone
I'm new to the list. I'm hoping someone can look up census record on a Mary
Lett / Mary M Lett / Mary Matilda Lett / Matilda Lett / Tilde Lett. These
are all possible names for the lady I'm looking for. I
Guidelines for requests are one year at a time, Sue, so I did 1910.
In 1910 Cherokee County, Alabama, Mobley/Mobly's indexed are:
Andrew, age 29
Garrett, age 25
George H., age 27
Several William/Wm./Will/W. Mobleys etc. indexed in 1910 Alabama:
William, age 31, black, in Conecuh
William, age 20, black, in Escambia
William, age 24, black, in Pickens
William, age 26, black, in Sumter
William M., age 51, white, in Tuscaloosa
William N., age 24, white, in Fayette
William P., age 23, white, in Chambers
Willia
Joy,
Have you already tried to find him in the 1880 census online at the LDS
website?
I find eleven Elijah and Eliga Browns indexed in 1880 Alabama - none in
Lauderdale, Limestone, or Madison. I checked those who were old enough to
have married in 1865, and none had a wife named Catherine nor a daughter
named Magnolia or Maggie.
Sorry not to be able to help. Perhaps if you could furnish race, age, place
of birth, finding the right one might be more possible.
