I found the name W. F. Higgins on a register of Confederates buried in Oxford cemetery. The list appeared in Confederate Veteran magazine in 1910, and the name is just above another name for a veteran of the 22nd Alabama. No unit is listed for W. F. Higgins -- he is listed as a member of an unknown Alabama unit.

You can contact me about M. B. Cunningham, who was my husband's great-great grandfather. He is buried in Collinsville. We recently visited his grave and learned he entered service at the age of 15 as a cavalryman.

As for meeting a woman in a hospital, other than laundresses and other auxillary personnel, most of the people assigned or hired for medical duty were men. During the Civil War hospital were considered unfit places for a respectable lady to be.
