Dear Sandra: Without a diary, letter, memoir, or some other document directly mentioning how they travelled it would be difficult, of course, to know for sure. Our ancestors usually travelled in groups -- with other family members or neighbors or both. If the town or area they left from or arrived at or passed through had a newspaper, it could have made mention of groups leaving and how they travelled. Groups also sometimes advertised for other people to travel with them. There was safety in numbers. So c
