Thanks Jan,
I couldn't get to it tonight. Saturday nights are almost impossible to

I've saved the URL and will try again when there aren't so many people

Hello list,
I recieved this morning yet another email from familydiscovery.com
wanting me to subscribe to their newsletter and their genealogical
search engine. This is the place that is charging a fee for sites that
are free.
It is a new pitch and starts out with Gentruth (A Newsletter) and
eventually gets down to subscribing to familydiscovery.com.
It is the same old story just another way of getting you to subscribe to
something that is free anyway.
They are still out there! Be aware!

Is anyone else out there researching John Martin White (1818-1858) and his wife, Mary Anne Lovicy Jordan (1827-1878)? They lived in Uchee, Russell County, AL, and Glenville, Barbour County, AL and are buried at Midway. He was an attorney, justice of the peace and school teacher educated at University of Georgia in Athens. He died in 1858 of measles leaving his wife and eight children. My great grandfather, Adolphus Herndon White was his youngest.
Mary A. L. Jordan was the daughter of Thomas George Jo

Green G. Thornton moved to Tarrant Co., TX around 1868. He is listed in the
1870/1880 census (Grapevine twnsp). He moved abt 1882 to Sivills Bend, Cooke

married into the Rose family, and they crossed the Red River into the
Chickasaw Nation. They lived in the Marietta area (Love Co., OK) and near
Scullin (Murray Co., OK).
Green G. Thornton, according to a TX DAR file, died 'near Scullin' 4 Aug

Mary,
Thank you for your suggestions. It had not occurred to me to search land deeds
to locate their residency. I believe I can order microfilm from the LDS Library
to check this.
Thanks especially for Morris McRae's name. I have just sent him an email and am
hopeful some of my people will be familiar to him

Judy,
I have some info on the other Thorntons of Barbour Co., AL - if you are
interested. Most of my data is census records, but I've certainly had a lot
of help recently. Mr. Huggins from the website was kind enough to send me an
entry from the 1851 landowners book. William H. was a son of John Thornton
of Stewart Co., GA. I did find some probate in the Barbour Co. index to that
effect. William H. Thornton appears to be a different line than Green H.
Thornton (Green is a son of the Rev. Dozier Thornt

Hi Mary,
I don't know for sure that they attended the
Presbyterian Church. I assume the McRae's
were probably Presbyterian but the Graves
may have been something else.
This family, James F. McRae (b. AL ca 1827)
and his wife, Henrietta Josephine Graves McRae
(perhaps known as "Jane") were in Randolph
County, GA in 1850 but their next three children
were born in Barbour County, AL. Those children
were:
Henry A. - - born around 1852
Cornelia H. -- born around 1856
Mary Elizabeth - - born around 1858
The Thornton's I know of are buried
in the Thornton Family Cemetery,
north of Three Notch in Bullock; if
memory serves, the Thornton sons
m. into the Baker and Jordan families.
Deo Vindice,
Homer T.
