Dear Cindy:
I have a few Lee and Beck individuals in my database. If you send
specific names, I can check. If we have a match, I will be glad to share
my information. My research has been primarily in Butler and Crenshaw
Counties in AL and Muscogee Co., GA.
If you have not already done so, look at the 1850 Butler Co., AL Census
online. Some Crenshaw and Butler County Cemeteries are online also.
Butler County Historical and Genealogical Society was not online the
last time I checked.

Try the American Civil War site at http://www.sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war. They
have all sorts of links including at least two for Sons of the Confederacy.
You have to prove your ancestry to the Civil War veteran in order to be
eligible for membership (by documentation). Rae Venable Calvert

Help! I need some help in connecting the family of Leander Stinson (ca 1824,
NC) to Andrew Stinson and Elizabeth Stringfellow. Leander is known to have a
daughter named Celia. She named James Smith, and later Richard Eady. She is
listed as a daughter to Andrew in the 1850 Butler County, AL census. Also
listed were Reuben and George A.
CSA records indicate that Leander was known as George Stinson who fought at
Fort Morgan, FL. He was captured and taken to Elmira Prison in NY where he
died. It is pos
I am searching for information on the family of Mary Ann BLACK, particularly
her maiden name which is believed to be CAIN. I would also like to learn the
name of her husband which family members believe to be Robert or James BLACK.
Any information will be most appreciated.
Mary Ann BLACK was born in SC, probably Edgefield District. She and her
husband removed to Alabama when he got sick and died in Butler County. The
family remained there to be near his gravesite. He was the first person to be

Dear Wynell:
My husband's 2nd great-grandmother was named Pheba Ellis. We found her
name and his, John Wells, in a Massey Family Bible in Greenville, Butler
County, AL.
Later, I found John Wells and Pheba in the 1850 US Census for Russell
Co., AL. John told the census taker he was age 45, b. in GA. Pheba told
the census taker she was age 40, b. in GA.
The name ELLIS caught my eye. Maybe you have some Ellis information I
can use. Sure hope so.
