With help from another board, the area of the community of Ranch has been identified.
The University of Alabama map archives for each county documents each of the current and historical sites in a given county.
Ranch is shown on a century-old map of Chilton County, not far from a site named Cane Creek Church.

Hi! We have found the family back to John Lorow and for most of Mary's family through Thomas Thomas and Suzanna Picksley.
John Lorow died at the poor house in Allegany County. He left his wife and apparantly had a drinking problem.
We were trying to figure out if this Alabama Lorow as related to our Lorows.

My friend and I read that cemetery about 4 years ago and I think it is
still on rootsweb. Mr. Seale had it on the Shelby County Genweb site for
a long time. My email address has changed several times since then. Try
this.
This cemetery is in Calera, Shelby County.

Would anyone here know of a cemetery in Chilton Co. by the name of - New
Salem, or Salem?
I don't see that cemetery posted @ Rootsweb, so I am wondering if
someone here would be so kind as to look and see if either of those
names is listed in the Chilton Co. Cem. Book? The family names I'm
searching for are BALL and CARDEN (could be sp. CARDIN or CARDING).
Specifically the wife was Civility Ann (maybe sp. Sylvia, Syvie, etc.)
and several
children... no father seesm to have been present. Time frame woul
All,
Here's a note from Fred Lawrence letting me know some more about NEW
SALEM Cemetery, not New Smyrna as
I had previously written.
Thanks to all, Martha

Martha, I have spent several hours in NEW SALEM cemetery, this is just
north of Clanton just before you get to Thorsby, It is an old church but
well kept. I have digital images of all the graves in that cemetery and
am in the process of creating a new audit of the cemetery. Chilton
County wants to publish a new cemete
Martha,
I have the book Cemeteries of Chilton but I don't find Thomas or Civility
Carden/Cardin in the index. I do find a younger Thomas A. Carden listed
in New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, located on CC 29 East, via US 31
South from Thorsby, Chilton County, Alabama on page 232.

I don't find anyone with the surname BALL listed in the index to Cemeteries
of Chilton.
Sorry I couldn't help more.

Thank you for sending the 1860 census info, I am assuming you do not know where they are in 1870 yet??? If not I have located them. Please email me directly if you need this information.

Thanks for the offers of help with this cemetery. I've been told that
it's the New Salem Cemetery (Baptist) in Chilton Co, not either of the
ones in Shelby. I see one of those in the three that Irma mentioned in
the Shelby Co. cemeteries listed online, but that's evidently not the
one.
A cousin has written w/ the names Civility Ann Ball (sp. all sort of
ways - Slyvie, Sylvia, Syvie, etc) who mar. Thomas Carden.

May 18, 1933 was on a Thursday.
I just Googled to Perpetual Calender and picked an option.
