I, too, am interested in the CALLER family. In the MS Territory records the
name is also spelled CALLIER. I go back to John Caller whose family was in
the Tombigbee area after 1780. His dau Mary (called Polly) Caller married
John Flood McGrew. Another dau, Caroline (born 1790) married John McGrew Jr,
(my ancestors).
There are records of some of the Callers who stayed in the area, and some
burials listed for Robert Caller's family. I need an age reference for the
Mary mentioned before.

I have the book, "THE SOUTHERN McGREW'S", by Everrette L. McGrew, but my
Julia McGrew is not listed in it. I was told that Julia McGrew was a full
blooded Choctaw Indian. I can' prove or disprove this. This is all the
information that I have on Julia. She was born in Alabama, unknown County in
1835 or 1836. Married in Greene County, Ala. on March 30, 1858 to James
William "Wilkie" Collins. They lived their married life in Ararata, Choctaw
County, Ala. Julia died before 1880 and I think is buried in Corinth

"Lavinia Hume Barron, daughter of John Barron and Mary Hume married John

Doctor James David Jones was born Dec 4. 1886, (my note - birth
year must be error based on other dates) at Lower Peach Tree, Wilcox
County. He was the son of Henry Robert and Mary Elizabeth (Hestle)

infantry, Confederate Army and was twice wounded, and after the war

PLEASE, please, be aware that an error was printed the SOUTHERN HISTORICAL
FAMILIES by the Boddies when the article about the McGrews was published.
There is a date for the recording of Mary/Polly McGrew's marriage to John
Flood McGrew. I have not been able to find a marriage record for Caroline and
John McGrew Jr. However, there is a record of a brother leaving his estate
to the children (Alexander, Flood, & Sary) of his deceased brother Flood
well before John Jr died in the 1840s in TX. From what I
Just a reminder that all authors are only as good as the information they can
find. Everette McGrew did a monumental job with the McGrew family.
Nevertheless, he had to rely on family knowledge for part of his work. (Some
of my folks are mixed up, but not badly. See the Boddie book which confuses
John Jr & John Flood for worse.)
Before I knew he had published his book, I worked very hard just to get
the Tombigbee area McGrews straight. There is another William McGrew that I
could not place, and his
Bbe. (ref.#) John Flood McGrew (sometimes called Col Flood) was born Jan 15,
1781 in Ala. and was first found a signer on petition to Congress 1799 and
or many more after that. He was appointed one of the first justices of
Washington County, Ala. court in June 1800. He was also elected to the first
MS Territory Legislature in 1800. He is listed in a letter to the President
in 1803 and was on all tax lists from 1803 in Was. Co. AL. He was a Lt. in
the militia as early as 1800 and finally became a Col. He mar
I have a Mary Calley in my line and was wondering if anyone knows if
the name is Calley or possibly Caller, Colley? The census is hard to
read and spellings are interesting to say the least.
I am interested in find others interested in the same names. Thanks.
