Good Evening Cal,
Sorry, but I have no information on Bartow W, "Bart"
Lassiter.
My Lassiter Research has produced less than
spectacular results. I have identified my direct
ancestor in the 1850 census and been able to track her
descendants. I found her Father in Florida in 1870
with a new Family. However, nothing on her brother &
sister.
There were several Lassiter Families in Coffee & Dale
Counties. I have never found anyone who had tied them
all together.

Does anyone have information on a Jennie Payne who married Ervin Childers?
Their son, John Jefferson Childers, was my great grandfather. He and his
wife, Eliza Turner Childers, are buried in Peniel Cemetery. John Jefferson
Childers was born in Alabama around 1834. The 1880 Barbour County Census shows
that John Jefferson Childers' father was born in Georgia and his mother in
South Carolina. I have not been able to find Ervin and Jennie Childers anywhere
and would appreciate any help you can
Be sure to check the United Daughters of the confederacy records for
burials.
It is mainly due to the UDC that the graves have been located and marked.
I would check with the Alabama UDC http://www.rootsweb.com/~aludc/index.html
for a local chapter or the chapter that is working on Dale county.
Also check the books that the UDC has published.

Over the past year, for some ODD reason, I have not been receiving

I've been reading the posts that mentioned the names Payne and Shirah.
My maternal grandmother was Mary Alice Shirah McKay, b. 1866, daughter of
Rhoda Payne and Silas King Shirah of Barbour County. Silas's first wife was
named Piety. I think their son Daniel Shirah's wife was named Piety also. I
wonder if this is the same family. Rhoda's parents were Joseph and Lydia
Payne.
If you see a connection I'd like to hear from you.

Minonia, my father's notes indicate that he had tried to find some
connection between Jenny Payne and Absolum but he was never able to find anything.
A few cousins and I are trying to research the Childers line but we haven't
been able to get beyond John Jefferson Childers. However, we found out
yesterday that he had two brothers who died in the Civil War, Joseph and Thomas.
Perhaps that will help in our search.

Is there a website that may list the Confederate Dead buried in Dale
County. I am looking of the grave of Captain William Lazarus SOLOMON. He was
in Company H of the 39th Alabama Infantry. His Confederate Service record
shows him with the rank of Captain in 1865. He married Martha SHOLAR in
1856. If there is anyone doing research on this line please let me know.

Linda,
A few days ago I saw your posting about Ervin Childers and Jennie. I think
she was a Payne and may have been a sister to Absolam and Joseph Payne. I
think your Dad and I talked about that one time. Maybe I can think of
somebody to ask about this. However, as you know, most of our primary
sources are gone.
I am happy to see that you are pursuing a hobby that your dad dearly
enjoyed! Take care.

Thanks for your response. Your interpretation of the census information is
something I had not thought of. Our family researchers assumed that the
Piety in the household in 1870 was Piety Shirah but we had no proof. We have not
been able to confirm that the Jefferson Childers in the 1870 census and the
J.J. Childers in the 1880 census are the same. However, there are so many
coincidences that it is hard to believe they are not the same person. We do
know that J.J. Childers married Eliza Jan
