My wife and I are planning a trip from Kansas City, Mo to Ozark, Al in the
first week of May. The main purpose of the trip is to meet with some
cousins I have not seen in 40 years or so and to visit a couple of the
cemeteries there. Post Oak and Center Ridge Church Cemetery. Plan on
taking pictures of some of the grave markers for Glenn, Payne, Bloodsworth,
Bludsworth, Strickland, Ard and Whitehead. Will be getting pictures of
others also while we are there. If any one has intrest in these Cemeteries

RootsWeb's many treasure boxes can not be opened with just a
simple "Open Sesame" as was done in "Ali Baba and the Forty
Thieves." First, RootsWeb is huge -- there are literally more
than a million Web pages of content and hundreds of millions of
names on RootsWeb. Second, RootsWeb actually consists of
thousands of Web sites, databases and files that have
accumulated in numerous different formats over more than 13
years, and continues to grow daily. However, because this
accumulation was not planned,
Someone ask for the Obit on the Coffee co site, so i went to the Library and
looked it up ,let may help others also.

Could someone tell me if a copy of Carmichael's - Dale County book on
churches is available anywhere? I am interested in completing additional
information on my family - Hildreths and also on the Dowlings. This book
would be a big help.

I am looking for the burial and death date for Armanda Ard. She was married to James William Judah, supposedly a cousin. He is buried in Christian Hill, so I suspect she might be there. He lived long past her and died in 1928. They were teachers at a Methodist school near Kinsey. She was blind, I suspect from a severe case of glaucoma, since it is so prevalent in this family.
Thanks

My wife and I will be going to Ozark this May and visiting the Post Oak
Cemetery and taking pictures of some of the grave markers. We will also be
going to the Center Ridge Church Cemetery and doing the same. I can take
pictures of the Ard marker as well and send them via e-mail.

It appears I stimulated some interest in the methodist school I mentioned. Here is what I have on it in case anyone is interested... Barry
Mallalieu Seminary had major role in area development
Mallalieu Seminary, now nothing but a memory, was a center of education in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Located in Kinsey, it endowed in its students the moral fiber that helped this area grow.
Mallalieu Seminary was founded in October 1882 as the result of an educational convention hel
Hi!
For some reason, the roll from the 1870 census that contains Dale
County is missing from the Birmingham Public Library collection, or
at least it has been any time I've looked for it in the last three
months. Does anyone know of another collection that definitely has
it before I drive elsewhere? With the price of gas these days, I
hate to waste a trip! :)
Thanks,
Jamie Lyn

Does anyone know the location of the grave of Martha Ann Prim, buried
City Cemetery, Newton, Al? I have walked thru cemetery and cannot find
grave. Of course, there are numerous old graves without markers.
Does anyone know who did the listings of the people buried there?
Thanks.
M. Barrett
I am going to look this Saturday at this Cemetary
for all my Crews relatives who are buried there.
If anyone knows a grave or two I can glance at for them I will gladly do so.
I will only have 3-5 hours to look.
I also would like to go to Weeks Assembly graveyard and look , but am not sure if I will have time.

Seeking information on a Marsh family that lived in Newton, Dale Co., AL. in
the 1860's. Drucilla Emily Jane Gilley b. 1840 Dale Co., Al to James Gilley
and "Citie" Bass; m. ? Marsh; d. 1902 Suwannee Co., FL.
Does anyone have information about a Pinkney Godwin, s/o Alexander M
Godwin (b 1795 SC), who was born in AL in 1819?
Still trying to "find" Winnie Godwin, b 1842 in the Dale Co, AL area.
She named one of her sons Pinkney. Wondered if there was a connection
here.
Thanks for any help/leads.

Hey Ron,
I don't think what you sent was a problem. I'm always interested in the
GODWIN name because of a GODWIN/WILKINSON marriage at Isle of Wight. I never
could connect to that line but I haven't stopped trying.
I also watch for the Christian name PINKNEY. There were Pinkney's involved
in SC politics and I believe the matriarch of the family established the
indigo trade in the Carolina's. I will read and delete 100 dead ends to
keep from missing one solid lead.

Do any of the Godwin researchers have a Rebecca Godwin? My GGgrandfather,
Isaiah Stokes, married Rebecca around 1840. I think she was born in 1825 in
Ala.. The Stokes' came to Ala in the 1830's from S.C.. They homesteaded land
in Haw Ridge(Coffee/Dale Co). According to land records there was a Wiley or
Willie and a Purceby Godwin living very close to the Stokes'. I don't have a
thing on Rebecca so I would appreciate any help.

Hi Sherry--
This is a long shot, but I thought I'd send this for your files, just
in case a connection turns up.
My ancestor David GODWIN died in Bladen Co., NC in 1781. He was a
Tory, and his estate was seized by the government upon his death.
Later, his widow and children went to court to try to get some or all
of his property restored to them. These actions identified his wife
Ann [PEARCE?] and his children:
1. Charity GODWIN b. ca 1768?
d. ca 1810 Columbus Co., NC
My sincere apologies to the Dale Co. listers, for sending to the list
what I intended to be a personal message to Sherri about the GODWIN
family. Hitting that "Reply" button just doesn't always do what I
want it to do, and sometimes I forget to check the address line before
I hit "Send."
Sorry!
