According to the 1880 Mississippi census, Mary Murphy Suggs says her Father
was born in Ireland. I have not found parents for her yet.
It would be nice if we could connect.
Thanks for your email.

Can someone on the list look-up:
>From the internet , I find there is a Suggs family on page 307B in Dallas

I think his name may be John H. Suggs. He married Mary M. Murphy in Dallas
County in 1843, and the first two children were born in Ala. , Wm. and Jane.

I am interested in a Tena who married my gg grandfather, Elijah. I don't know
what her maiden name was. What part of Dallas County did these people
reside. My ancestor was in Selma.

You might try the local libraries down there. Usually libraries carry city
directories for the area.
You might be able to find some library links at the Cyndislist site for
Alabama: http://www.Cyndislist.com/al.htm.

Barb,
Yesterday was when I discovered a Murphy family in the Suggs line I am
researching. So at this time I don't know who was the Father of Mary M.
Murphy who married John H. Suggs. On the 1880 census she states her Father
was born in Ireland and her Mother in SC. That is all I know at this time,
but I hope to learn who her parents were and continue with the Murphy family.
Thanks for your email.

Cynthia,
I also live in the Selma area and I know of some "Heards" that live in Perry
County between Selma and Marion....actually near the Cahaba River. I even
know one of their daughters and I will try to contact her on Monday....she
works for the same company that I work for.....and I will ask her what she
knows. She has email also and I will forward this request to her and maybe
she will be able to help you.

Interestingly, my Murpheys migrated to MS too. Kemper Co.
Where did yours settle?
Have you seen the 1840 census for Dallas? There were only three: E. Murphy,
John Murphy and my John H. Murphy. E had no slaves, nor did John H., but
John did. Clearly John was well off.
I believe E was Edward, from the 1830 census. That census shows two Johns
and a Lucreti

Hi,
John H. Murphey was born in the 1790s in SC. His grandmother lived in SC so
they were not newcomers. They were Scots Irish with Cherokee mixed in.
Do you know where your family lived in Dallas? Have you checked the land
grant records online? We visited Dallas Co this winter to try to find
connections. John H. Murphey lived to the east of Selma and his mother
Lucretia lived to the south of Selma. There was another (richer) Murphy
family to the West. And a Murphey (Rev, I think) living in Selma.

I'm writing concerning REUBEN WOODS, an African-American who once was a slave
owned by Thomas Woods [my g-g-g-grandfather] of Dallas County, Alabama, and
named by Thomas in his will in 1831. I believe that Reuben Woods died after
1880 in Dallas County, and was survived by several children and
grandchildren. I have researched interesting information about Reuben
Woods (in family wills, correspondence, legal documents, census records,
etc.), and would like to share this information with any of his

helpful. Post on any surname mailing list that is one of the names connected

Elijah Coleman was the son of Judy Coleman. I don't know the father's name.
I am told Elijah was a carpenter and a preacher. He also had several wives.
One was my great grandmother who was named MaryDella Crocheron/Crishon. When
he married Della, he was living at Elam Bluff and had one child from a
previous marriage. I don't know the name of that wife. I learned about Tena
when I sent for his death certificate. He was born in 1853 and died in 1921
in Selma. He may have had children by Tena who
