The Autauga Genealogy Society will meet this Sunday, November 20, at 2 p.m.
at Peoples Bank in Prattville.
Jim Parker, director of Fort Toulouse/Jackson, will present the program on
the history of the forts and on the settlers of the War of 1812. Visitors
are welcome to attend the meetings.
Concerning Dallas County AL soldiers who participated in the Mexican War,
check out the records of the Lafayette Artillery, a local militia unit which
supplied many soldiers to the regular army who fought in Mexico.
Robert E. Parrott, Knoxville TN.
Mr. Smith,
I don't know if this is your John Hall or not, as the dates are not
quite the same as what you have.
According to the book, "Vital Data from Cemeteries in Dallas County,
Alabama" by the Central Alabama Genealogical Society, a John Hall, b. 23
Apr 1770 and d. 10 Feb1825, is buried in the Childers Chapel cemetery on
the east side of County Rd. 37, south of Summerfield in Township 17,
Range 10, Section 3.
To get there, if you're coming into Selma from the west on US Highway 80
from Demopolis,
Records of the Lafayette Artillery can be found in the Calvin McClung
Genealogical Library in Knoxville, now in the expanded building on Gay Street. You
will have to search for them diligently in the records of the Alabama
Historical Society and other Alabama-related periodicals. If you do not know the
Calvin McClung Collection, you should -- it's one of the best regional
genealogical collections in the country.
Robert E. Parrott.
Does anyone on this list have access to the 1850 Dallas Co., AL. census, who
might be willing to look up John McElroy family in Cahaba, Dallas Co. ?
There may be a DAVID WILSON (son of Mrs. Mariah/Mary McElroy, wife of John)
I also need info. on this David Wilson, & any other Wilson children that
might be listed in the McElroy household.
I have tried finding an 1850 census on the net "free genealogy" to no avail.
If you have this census, your help would be greatly appreciated!
If there are any WILSON r
Can anyone tell me if there is a published list of Dallas County folks who participated in the Mexican War. I have particular interest in William Hutchinson Norris, who at about the same time served as a State Senator, having been elected from Dallas County...Any help will be appreciated...docjones, Melbourne FL
To John Gwin;
First let me thank you for your response. Also the dates I have are a
best guess and not proven or I doubt known by anyone living. All I
know bacially is his name and who he married. This could be my John
Hall and for that I truly thank you.
I will checkit out and go from there.
Thanks again,
May God bless
Larry

Does anyone have access to the names of Representatives and Senators from Dallas County who served in the 1830's and 1840's....
I need to know when William H. Norris served in each house and the simple years will do me very well. Any help will be greatly appreciated....docjones, Melbourne FL docjones35@bellsouth.net
Thanks everyone for those census lookups.
I thought John Jones McElroy family would be there by 1850, since he died
there Nov 20, 1866 (age 70)
He would have been about 56, born GA. on 1850 census, & wife Mariah/Mary
would have been abt 46, born MD., if anyone spots them on any other 1850
census, please let me know.
Thanks again!
Dianne

Robert Land - Cahaba Office 1838
Good afternoon,
I'm hoping someone can help me. I searching for any
information on a Robert Land who I have found purchased land
in the Cahaba Land Office in 1838. Hopefully, he will be
the father of my William Robert Land who was born in Alabama
and also shows in an 1900 census that his father was born in
Alabama. Robert was later married in Dallas, County, Texas
to Julia Blanche Powers. Hopefully, these names will be
familiar to someone on this list. Robert and Bla
