Kathy,
My father had a sister who was 9 years old on the 1910 census (only census
she ever appeared on - died as a teenager) and she is listed as Vee. Somewhere
I've seen her listed also as Veda. I wish I knew if those were nicknames.
The census info is all I have on her. Is Cutchens your great aunt's maiden
name? I know I don't have any Cutchens in my lines but perhaps they could have
been neighbors.

I am planning a trip to Henry County about the 27th of this month. Need some
help. We will be staying near Abbeville and need the directions to the court
house. Also I need to know the directs to Hardwicksburg. I will be in FT
Gaines, Shorterville, Abbeyville and Hardwickburg. Any info you can help me with
would be appreciated. Thank you so much.

I am seeking information on the first home of Ephraim and Mary Ann Ward Oates. Did they live on his mother's plantation near Roeville, or did they live in Abbeville Alabama? Where did he and his first wife live. Malinda Ann's Confederate Widows pension only said she was born near Abbeville 5 Feb 1851. Which meant they were all either born on his mother's plantation or in their own home. The plantation was located near the outskirts of Roeville. I know that Mary Ann Oates died 4 Nov 1882 and she is buried i
Larry, can you help this gentleman, please.

Several articles have recently appeared on witching or dousing for
gravesites and several of our members have asked questions about "who can we
contact?"
Do you perchance know who the gentleman was that put on the dousing
demonstration during our May meeting and how to contact him? I thought I had
that info but if I did, I can't find it anywhere now - all I remember is
that he was from Henry County.
Just FYI, one of our members found the following disc

Does anyone have female ancestors with the name "Vee". I was named after a
great-aunt whose middle name was Vee and have been told it was an old family
name. Just wondering where this came from (and why I was "blessed" with it)?
(Great-aunt was a Cutchens).
Thanks,
Kathy Vee

To the person who asked about the unknown Messer in LA., sorry but I don't
have any info on them. I tried replying to your message but since my email
address is unknown to your address book, it was returned. I haven't had a
lot of luck on my Messers, pretty elusive group. Am I the only person who
gets an ancestor with a common name in an area but they don't connect with
any of the locals? Drives me nuts. But then that's what makes this so
interesting. Pierson/Person Messer married Armintha Golden and
Thanks, all you Henry County People.
The program at the Dale County Genealogical and Historical Society Meeting
in Ozark for May, 2004, was presented by Ted Urquhart, President, Alabama
Cemetery Preservation Alliance.
A guest at our meeting, Ronald Thomas, Abbeville, demonstrated how the
dowsing rods worked for him. We were flabbergasted!!!
I couldn't make it work for me. However, I haven't given up. As soon as the
weather cools a bit, I'm going to any old cemetery on my neighbor's property
and check it ou
Does anyone have any info on a Mary Campbell that is listed on the 1860
Henry County census? She was head of house, 63, born GA. Living with her was
Marion 79, and Layrett---? 28, and Wm Irwin 11. In 1870, there is a Mary
Campbell living with my Willis Brown family in Dale County who would fit the
age. Thanks for any leads!
Kathy

I may have found Andrew J. Parker and his wife Sarah in 1870. I am somewhat
puzzled about the place of birth of two children in 1870 compared to the 1880
census where Andrew is with his second wife, one of my ancestors, Sarah Lane.
There is a family tree at Ancestry.Com that has Andrew and Sarah Lane Parker
living in Arkansas after 1880. Please let me know what

After a recent visit to Henry County, I finally connected by gggrandfather,
John W. Brown to his father Willis Brown. (Willis was married twice, first
to Mary (unknown) and second to Elizabeth Armstong.)
John W. was married to Julia Ann Messer on March 10, 1881. John W and Julia
had the following children: Irene who married Henry C. Kirkland, John H who
apparently never married, Minnie Mae (my ggrandmother) who married Thomas
Coker Cutchens, Janie who may have died before 1910, Mary who maried James
