They may have attended the school in Wicksburg or a small school, Jellico School, east of Wicksburg. This is halfway between Wicksburg and Dothan. Dothan library has articles regarding Jellico School.

Funeral home markers with the Independent name is located at Old Friendship Primitive Baptist Church on Rocky Creek Rd. They are dated 1922 and 1925 and are still readable.
