Does any one know if all Southern states did a survey of Civil War
Veterans around 1911? I know some states did (Arkansas for one). I
am particularly interested in Alabama and Mississippi.
Thanks for your help.

Does anyone has access to the Family Tree Maker "Family Archive CD 319"? I
went to this site ( http://www.familytreemaker.com/ffitop.html) and typed
in my ancestor's name Sanders PHILLIPS and it showed he was listed on this
CD which is a 1870 census including alabama - where i know he was in 1850.
Any help appreciated - please pass along if you know of someone who has
this CD. Thanks!
Linda, also try this - http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl
lets you search all queries from the list - just type in Durham and submit
and then type a name or whatever in the next place, etc.

Linda, to search a cemetery, city, creek, branch, whatever - go to:
http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html
and go from there - I checked on the Durham Cemetery listings and there are
many! But the one listed in Kentucky was listed in Casey County. Go to
Casey County by using Rootsweb -
http://www.rootsweb.com/~websites/usgenweb.htm
and go to whatever state and then county and then look for volunteer look
ups from that county. and - if that county is not listed, look at

We will be in the tri-city area around Sept. 18-22 visiting relatives.
This will be my mothers first trip back for socializing.
While I am there I wanted to research a few things, but don't know where
to start. Which of the libraries has the most genealogy material? Are
they open on the weekend or on Monday's?
I also will be visiting cemeteries. The only one I am not familiar with
Florence city cemetery. Where is it located and is there an attendant
there during the day to locate

I'm researching the BRYAN surname in Lauderdale & Limestone Counties. Would
very much appreciate a lookup in 1850 Lauderdale Co. Census for a John
BRYAN. I've found where he purchased land in Lauderdale Co., Huntsville in
March of 1852.
Possible connected names are Reuben B. BRYAN and Thomas C. BRYAN.
Thank you for any help.

Hi all:
My gggfather, Hardy MATHEWS/MATTHEWS performed several marriages as a
"J. P." in Lauderdale Co., in the mid 1840's. Was there a formal
procedure for becoming a J. P.?
Are there any government records of practicing J.P.'s for that period?
Hardy was also an itinerant minister in the Methodist Episcopal (South)
church. He signed at least one marriage certificate as "M. G." Does
this mean Minister of God?
Any input appreciated.
