Hi,
I have a Leah Frances Carter who married Charles Shaunfield.
Leah's father's name was William E. Carter of AL.
I have only found one census that is a possibility of this family. Because Leah was born in late 1840, she will only be on the 1850 Census data, which I have yet to find.
The 1860

I did find the names of Mary's parents. They are William Snell and Annie Elizabeth Davis. I assume they were born about 1800, but that's all the info. I have on them at this point. Maybe that can help if you're looking up census info.

I bought three Heritage books covering Alabama counties. The Monroe County
book is indeed a big disappointment. A distant cousin wrote about our Lett
family, who moved from Virginia to the Burnt Corn, AL, area in about 1832. The
entire story was omitted. What a shame!
I can, however, recommend a new book I recently purchased, "Crossroads: The
Early Years of Monroe County," by Kathy McCoy, 124 pages, from The Monroeville
Journal, at 251-575-3282.

I am sure it was NOT on purpose, however, they are aware of it. I got back
all the info and went thru the book and made a list for the publisher. We
thought he would reprint but to this date it has not happened.

Rowells were here before 1810.

Below are some notes I have put together in my search to identify my
ggggrandfather William Robertson from all the other William Robs that
lived in Butler and Monroe Counties in the early 1800s. The name is
spelled several different ways: Roberson, Robertson, Robinson,
Robberson, and maybe Robson. If anyone has any info on the
individuals in the records below, please write to me. I am always
happy to share the data I have collected. Freda Roberson Noble

Are these articles in Kathy McCoy's book or the Monroe County Heritage book?
My article about the two Taylor men is included in the Heritage book.
I called the Monroe Journal this afternoon and order Kathy McCoy's book by
phone. A very friendly, helpful lady took my order and will ship the book to me
shortly at a cost of $20 plus $5 shipping to North Carolina. I look forward
to receiving it, since Kathy McCoy always does a fine job of researching
whatever she publishes. We are lucky to have her in

I received a copy a couple years ago and it was not very well done. Some of
the information I sent that was printed had things left out and there were
other things done wrong that I can't recall now without looking for the
book. I was very disappointed.
