1. Re: [ALS-LOR] Bosche Surname [1]
Randy, I do not know what information you have on the Bosche/Bousch/Busch/Bush family at this time. I have a few items from my side of the Bousch/Busch/Bush family and would be happy to send them to you if you are interested. I am in the process of organizing all of my material into specific binders and it may be a little while before I can get it to you. Paula

5. [ALS-LOR] church history in Dieffenbach and Durrenbach [1]
Is there anyone who lives in or near the two villages of Dieffenbach-les-Woerth (67) and Durrenbach (67) who could tell me the history of the Catholic Churches there. I would like to know more about St. Joseph's Church in Dieffenbach and St. Bartholomew's Church in Durrenbach. I will offer to pay a reasonable amount for the cost of pictures of the two churches and the area if there is someone who can take digital photos and send them via email. Thank you, Shirley _______________________________________
6. Re: [ALS-LOR] HAUCK, HAUG, HUG surname [1]
Dear Norma, Hope my note finds you well. Yes, Vogel is my maiden name and to be honest, I have no idea where this line comes from. I am working on my father's maternal and paternal sides in a hap-hazard way but making great discoveries. I have one document, Declaration of Intent, I think, that states Joseph Vogel as arriving in 1838, it is from the State of New York City and County of New York. Census information reveals that he and his wife, Mary Magdelena Sachmeister, are from Bavaria. They had two

Paula Perhaps when you get your material all together, would you mind forwarding this material to me when you are ready to send it to Randy. My Busch's came from Alsace/Lorriane but haven't connected as yet. Most of this surname immigrated to the Banat in the early 1700's but they originated in the Alsace/Lorriane area. Thanks John Busch

10. [ALS-LOR] Letter from Alsace-Lorraine, dated Dec 7, 1918 [1]
I thought I would share with the list a letter that has been in the family. It describes conditions after WWI in Alsace. I thought some of you might find it interesting. The letter was sent by a friend of Mrs. John (Hortense) ABEL, sister to my GG-grandmother Maria Theresia KIEFFER nee PFLIEGER/PFLUEGER. The letter had been printed in the newspaper located in Wausau, Marathon Co., Wisconsin. I have left spelling etc as is, and added some names in parenthesis. I would appreciate any comments etc! Kath

12. Fw: [ALS-LOR] Application papers waived? [1]
This information is on the Philadelphia City Archives site.As I read it, it appears to say that a declaration didn't have to be filed if the person was under 18 when the entered the country. The declaration could be waived in that instance. Am I correct in assuming that? Pat D The petition for naturalization occurred at least two years after the declaration of intention and after the alien had resided within the United States for at least five years. Uniformly, the petition for naturalization will give

Thank you for sharing this touching letter with all of us. It certainly puts our lives and the lives of our ancestors into perspective. Although my own emigrated to America from Alsace in 1860, distant cousins no doubt remained in Europe. There but for the Grace of God... Stephen Chatsworth, CA

18. [ALS-LOR] HAUCK, HAUG, HUG surname [1]
In the past month there have been discussions on several of the European lists as to the origin of the Hauck name, with several questions regarding whether it is a Swiss name. In my genealogy I have connections to the Hauck name in Hunspach, Bas-Rhin (Alsace) France in the late 1600's early 1700's. The book, "Histoire de Hunspach et de la Paroisse de Hunspach, Hofen, Ingolsheim", by Hermann Gerst, published by Editions Oberlin Strassbourg in 1975, makes numerous references to the Hauck name in this time p

Many thanks to Valorie Zimmerman for her answer to a query regarding application papers. That opened for me a renewed search among county papers for records in Oliver County, North Dakota. I have some leads now but would like to know if anyone has information about a SCHWEIGERT family. My grandfather, Jakob Fried, arrived in North Dakota in 1900 and his family was taken in for a time by an aunt, Rosa (Fried) Schweigert. The Frieds migrated from Karlsruhe, Odessa. A young family of Schweigerts were trav

22. [ALS-LOR] genealogy research in the Baden/A-L region [1]
Does anyone know of a competent person in the Baden/A-L region who could research church records or whatever to help me find my long-sought John WIEZEL (WIETZEL)? He listed his country of origin in the 1860 California census as "Baden". His wife Caroline HEROLD listed her country as "France". Family oral history suggests they immigrated to the U.S. from somewhere in the Alsace Lorraine region. They were married the same year as they immigrated to the U.S. (1852) so I have no idea if the marriage took pl
23. [ALS-LOR] Old Ship [1]
Hi All I am searching for a ship named the Normandy. This ship was once known as the pride of France, it was a luxury liner. The ship was pictured in the New York harbor being towed to Newark, New Jersey to be dismantled around the time of the 2nd World War. It was a large cruise ship being converted to a troop transport when it caught fire. I believe it was dismantled by a salvage company by the name of or owned by a Lipsett family. Lipsett was written on the side of the ship. I would apprec
