Chad,
I suggest you join Lutheran Roots on rootsweb. You might ask and find
out more about Pastor Haas's wife , e.g. if they married in the US,
etc.
Not only do ma=embers help each other, Joel Thorensen, ELCA archivist
is on and a great help with older resources.

Thank you for answering my query.
I'm doing research for my cousin who does not have a computer. Stundwiller
is an area he mentioned where he knows some of his Philipps family is from.
I will check his family listing to see if your relatives are mentioned.
Luckily, I found such a listing on geneanet.com which makes my research so much
easier. I think he would like to meet any relatives who are descended from the
Philipps line. He also has a cousin in NY state who is working on the family

Beverley,
There is a Bernard J. Flory in the US 1920 census whose parents listed
as being born in Alsace Lorraine Germany (sic). This Bernard's age is
given as 37, so born about 1883, in Pennsylvania. Most of 1890 censuses
were destroyed in a fire, and that would have been the best key to see
if he is one you are seeking.
I checked the 1900 census but didn't find him. There are many other

century, mostly in Penn. There are many

I'm sorry, I should have noticed that she didn't include that information.
Google tells me that Mme Geyer's website is at:

The site for the census alone is: http://site.voila.fr/census1836

Helen,
Sulzbach is the German name for Soultzbach-les-Bains, Dipartement du
Haut-Rhin (southern Alsace), in the arrondissement of Colmar and canton
of Munster, about 5 km east of Munster and about 13 km west-southwest
of the center of Colmar. Earlier the name of this town appeared also as
Soultzbach and Sultzbach.
There are other places in southern Alsace with the old name Sulzbach:
Soppe-le-Bas and Soppe-le-Haut, both in the arrondissement of Thann
and canton of Masevaux (called respectively in German, N
Hello,
I am trying to locate information on [2] relatives who sailed from Hamburg
to New York on the ship Allemannia. The Ship arrived in New York on 30 April
1866.
The family names are Adolph Rauh [age 22] and Babbette Rauh [age 25].
I'm looking for their village of origin. Family lore states they came from
Alsace [probably near Strasbourg].
Is their any way to get a copy of their applications for their voyage to the
US?
Is their another list that might have additional information?
Thanks,
Don Bloch
Hello all,
Alsace was *never* part of historical Prussia (capital Berlin). However,
the "second Reich" (1871-1918) was ruled by the Prussian King, who became
the German Emperor, and it was often called the "Prussian Empire".
Therefore many considered that Alsace was Prussian, just like all other
parts of the Empire. Let's add that many true Prussians settles then in
Alsace and held public functions. So, the "administration" was, so to say,
Prussian.

Mary,
Hoock is an Americanized name for HUCK, a common name in Alsace-Lorraine.
The pronunciation of Hoock in English and the pronunciation of Huck in
German are the same pronunciation.
To hear both pronunciations you can use the site

Is this information available in books in regional libraries. I know that
the originals are located in regional archives. Is the information

Thank you for the information. Do you know if Deidesheim, Pfalz, Bayern was part of Alsace during the 1830s? I found a birth record on the LDS site that might be my Apollonia.
