4. Unbelieveble [1]
I cannot believe that in this day and time individuals could bring to the public this statement. Just what water do they walk on? I have relatives that lived in Tallapoosa County from 1850 till 1868. The Rev. Early Greathouse moved from Georgia to Alabama with his twelve children. Four of his sons fought in the CSA and three of them died in that war.Several Greathouse Family members are buried near Dadsville. The Rev. Greathouse was a Baptist minister at the Troup County Line Baptist Church before mo

In a message dated 08/03/1999 7:25:56 PM Eastern Daylight Time, EGreat7049@aol.com writes: << I had planned to complete a brief history of the Greathouse Family for your publication, its would seem to be a waste of time. Please advise. Sincerely, Early Reed Greathouse >> I for one, hope you still send it. Unless I am totally wrong, they were loved and had some impact on the people of that county. Seems to be a help to me...I have no ties to the Greathouses but think they should be included in

12. Re: ALTALLAP-D Digest V99 #86 [1]
In reply to the e-mails related to "unbelieveable", where did you get the idea that the "Heritage Book" folks would delete material on someone's parentage as you've interpreted it? While the "illegitimate" definition is listed as the 3rd one in the dictionary I use, the major definition relates to "lacking authenticity or validity; counterfeit; false". The next one relates to "constituting a forgery or interpolation". So I have to assume that these are reasonable people and used the "spurious" term to f
13. Cherokee Indian Genealogy [1]
Hi all... I have been wanting to find some info on my gggrandmother MARTHA TAYLOR YATES PEPPER. I had a note on some genealogy stuff that indicated she might be part Indian, tho I didn't know what tribe. Well, today I visited her grave for the first time, and guess what? There's a big ole SEAL OF THE CHEROKEE NATION on her grave! Now, I am wondering if you all could give me some pointers on tracing my Native American roots? Subsequent findings today said she was 1/2 Indian, and her parents were J
14. Re: ALTALLAP-D Digest V99 #86 [1]
Reference the questions about the "Committee reserves the right to delete spurious material." I have seen and at least scanned all of the stories submitted to date and found nothing that would fit that description. It is my view that "spurious material" would come under the heading of libelous material. It would not be good to say that someone was a "bastard", but nothing would be wrong in saying that the same person's Mother was unwed or that the person was born out of wedlock. That says the same thin

I am going to try this again. I forgot I unsubscribed when I went on vacation...and I don't think this made it to the list yesterday. 17. Re: Davis [1]
Janice, Many times witnesses on legal documents were relatives or trusted friends. A lot of genealogists would tell you to follow your nose on this one. The Davis's you mentioned are more than likely related. Did they live close together on the census records? You did not give dates so I am assuming you have checked. I will try to check and see if I can find any info on them in my marriage database as I have Davis relatives as well, and I made note of some of their (Davis) marriages in Tallapoosa

19. New Correct Tallapoosa Heritage Book Deadline [1]
Hi folks. I have been out of town since mid July and have not responded to those of you who asked about the Heritage Book deadline. 20. Richardson [1]
Hi everyone! I've been gone from the lists for a long time and wondered if there was anyone researching the surname RICHARDSON. In particular, I'm trying to find Thomas Richardson born 1816. Family says he was born in Charleston, SC, but we've never been able to find him there, even with 2 professional researchers. Other family members insist he was born in SC but lived in Alabama most of his life. I found him in Trinity County, TX in 1853 where he finally decided to stay put and stop wandering ar

23. Davis [1]
My great-grandfather John Daniel Davis wrote his will in March 1873 in Tallapoosa Co and it was witnessed by John A. Davis. Could this John A. Davis be a relative? John Daniel Davis and his brothers and sisters were involved in legal documents with the children of Sarah R. Moon b.1820 who married John B. Davis and then James B. Davis - married both in Meriwether Co, Georgia. We have no idea if these Davis men could be relatives. Could someone help us? Our Davis family lived in Tallapoosa Co between Jackson
24. Heritage Book Deadline [1]
The reason for the mix up in dates is that the publisher's consultants changed the deadline from 30 September 1999 to 31 October 1999 without the knowledge of the committee. Therefore the committee could not disseminate the correct date in a timely manner. Jack
