Sometimes census records of that area are a help if you look at the occupations of the people they usually are in the same area and you can ususally find the saw mill owner if you keep looking. It takes a lot of time that way but I don't know of another way. Let me know if you find a better way.
thanks

Oop's! Meant to reply to an email.

I can feel for you on that one. A cousin and I've sent off many times for a death certificate for our ggrandmother and get nothing but have gotten our ggrandfathers. There are a lot of avenues you can explore. Maybe the records of the funeral home if they used one and also there is the route of going to the archives in the state repository. In La they will give you a hard time if even the day is off and I have a feeling all of them do this. Another problem can be false information given by people at th

I don't know. Was Harriet a Christy? If so, where did she and Mr. Smith live
and what was the time frame. Big Grandpa's dad was pretty secretive about
his family but maybe some of my "older" (than dirt) cousins might remember.
Samuel Winfield Christy was born Valentine's Day, 1874 either in AR or MS,
according to the census or what he said.

Sorry I can't be of help with the death certificates, but I have had good
luck and bad luck with ordering them.
My grandmother died in 1939, Jackson, CO, AR. I have no idea who the DR. was,
but no death certificate for her, there was an obit but most of the
information was wrong on that. So, yes I would think by 1939 it surely would be
required, I think it depends on the area and Dr. By 1944 my grandfather died in
Jackson CO. and there is one on record for him.
Another thing that may be of some help,
Christy,

It's hard to find information on Sawmills back then because alot of them
just picked up and moved from place to place,i have been trying to find
out about my GGrandfather,,family lore says he was killed in a logging
accident around Independence County,,it would have been after
1930,,family say a log crushed his chest and killed him,but I cant seem
to find any way to prove this.
I know that a lot of you really enjoy the occasional chats held at
ArkansasFamilies.net, and I have been thinking that since we don't always
have time for them, and since no time is convenient for everyone, that
perhaps we should create a mailing list to make up for that.
A place to share genealogy info, tips, hints, personal histories,
anecdotes, and any information you may want to share. Discussing of all
things Arkansas, from Arkansas surnames to Southern recipes, old stories,

Well,I live in Louisiana, but was born and raised in Ark,and Ark is where
my Ggrandparents lived and I know they died after 1930 because they were
on the Independence County Census,my Grandparents and my dad and one of
his brothers were all living with them,,but nobody seems to know or say
they cannot find a death record for them,,you would think as late as the
1930's it wouldn't be a problem getting a death certificate,because by
this time in the 1930's it was a law to record deaths,,but evidentally

I have sent off 2 times now for my Ggrandfathers death cert, and both
times they send me a W.G Moore or William G Moore and neither one are
mine,it's getting expensive sending off money and getting some Moore that
you dont even know,,I give them all the info I can even his wife's name
,where he was born about when he was born etc,,and still they send me the
wrong ones,,I'm afraid if i keep on i'm gonna end up with every William G
Moore's death cert in Independence County but mine,,I've given up on
trying to
Have you tried ordering his death certificate? By that time I am sure there would be one and it would give you all the information you need. It will contain who what where and when. You can order it from vital statistics of the state. It will have the doctors report and a lot of family information on it for you.
The best of luck.

Could someone tell me how I could locate a list of sawmills in Lonoke, County between 1911-1920. My grandfather died in an accident in Coy sometime during that time frame. Thankyou Bonnie Hale Anderson bonconand@msn.com
I'm looking for a man named Lewis/Louis Holbert that may have worked in this
mill as he also played the piano. Zadie Lee Melton was his wife (?) as they
had a son Horace Woodrow Holbert. Mr Holbert never new he had a son. Zadie
left him when she did not realize she was pregnant. Horace was born in May
1916 in Paris Texas. Does any of this sound familiar? Please contact me if
it does. Thanks Jude
