Thanks for your reference to the old maps on Crawford County--something
I've wanted for many years. I will definitely be sending off for the CD.

Janette,
I would appreciate it if you could check in your Arkansas Land Patent
Book, Crawford County, for any HUGHES and HENDERSON names. My grandfather (George
Washington HUGHES) and some of his siblings were supposed to have been born
in Alma, Arkansas crica 1875-1890. This family has been fairly elusive, so any
help will be appreciated.
Researching family history of HELMS, HUGHES, WINKLEPLECK, CLARK, MILLER,
MORGAN, HENDERSON, LOCKHART
Thanks...I will try to keep track of you...I have found twoancestry lines,
on my grandmother's side, from Lafayette County...both big planters with a
large stock of slaves...Garland, from the part of Lafayette confused by being off
and on in Miller..there are two remnant communities from the old
plantation site....and Lee,east of the river, with holdings near 'Old Lewisville',
and both Lees and Garlands buried in the Lee Cemetery...which appears to be the
site of that old plantation house...
I posed the same question to him and haven't received an answer yet. I
figure I can at least try to track down the microfilm and transcribe them.
All of mine were from Franklin County and as much information that these
records contain I would LOVE to see what they say!

Tami, this is a great addition to the Crawford County Site. I did find an error on my great grandfather's entry, is there anyway it can be corrected, I am afraid it might lead someone down the wrong path in their ancestor search.

Janette, I have better information now about the Land Patent books at The
Crawford County Genealogy Library.
There are two Franklin County books,
1. Franklin County Land Patents by Virginia McPail , Arkansas Historical
Commission, One Capital Mall, Little Rock, Ar. 72221. It starts in 1828
and is organized by land definition ( Section, Township, Range)
2. Franklin Land Patents from Arkansas Research, P.O. Box 303 Conway, Air
72032 This is organized by grantee name and goes until 1908.
Hope this

Go back to the census record, pull up the image and the magnifying glass
tool in the toolbar at the top, and look at the image of the original census
taker's sheet in detail...noting extra detail, and who is adjacent on the
sheet--probable neighbors, but also boarders and other extra members of the
household...do you have a set of Ancestry.Com's 'headings' sheets? it will save you
scrolling up and down, which is hard to do without losing your place....
