The money can be sent disguised in an envelope o through Western Union, the
Bank transfers are terribly expensive the charge a of U$30.- minimum fee for
reciving the money and 15 days to credit it. The envelope is a bit
dangerous, but if you know of any other way please let me know.

I'm trying to find a marriage record for a marriage between Felix Juan Angus
Aguirre (my great grandfather) and Johann Matheson (my great grandmother,
who I believe was Scottish and emigrated to Argentina for a while). How can
I go about finding this without actually going to Buenos Aires? I don't
speak Spanish, so I am hesistant to write and request a search, especially
as I am not sure of the year. I believe that the marriage happened between
1908 and the end of 1911 (when my grandfather was born in Londo

The 1895 census is not complete, only 60% of the census is on-line. I have
already checked it. Anyhow, Ann thanks for helping.

Erin:
Today I went to the Immigration Center to see if I could find an Italian Palmer entring Argentina. The registers from 1869 to 1881 are lost so if they came during that period it is impossible to know, but I searched from 1882 to 1890, and during that period there were no John and Mary Palmer, Italian or otherwise. There were:
Albert (British), Alfred (British), Antonio (Swiss), Antonio (S
Hi Marie,
She was listed as Johann on the birth certificate, and I have found several
Johann Mathesons in Scotland (Matheson seems a common name in Scotland), so
it seems as though the name did exist. I thought it was strange too, but it
does seem to be a girl's name from that kind of time!
As far as I'm aware, Felix (Juan Angus) Aguirre is Argentinian (he was
listed as a Government Boat Inspector of Calle Bolivar, Buenos Aires), so I
don't think that you would find him in the arrivals. As I said in the

Marie,
I was thinking...we could do it via pay pal. I already have an account and
if you do not, it is free to sign up for one. The money can be instantly
transferred, that way and we don't have to worry about it being stolen. Let
me know what you think. The website is www.paypal.com

I can try to help you. I guess they married by the Presbyterian church. If
so I can find out the details. I can also try to find out the date of
arrival of both of them. What puzzles me is the name of your grand mother
Johann? isn4t that a boys name. Are you sure it does not have an "a"
Johanna?I will do whatever I can to have some information next week and let
you know what s possible and what not and if it has a cost or not.
Cordially

I will try. To request the birth certificate of Nicholas the Civil Register
charges U$20.-
That does not mean they will find it. If he was born in Buenos Aires,
Capital, you have 90% chance to find it, because all the certificates are
filed at the Civil Register. If he was born in the Province of Buenos Aires
the thing changes because the certificate are not filed in one place but
they are filed in the town, city or wherever he was born and that is
practically impossible and very expensive. I will try
Hi Marie,
That's fine. I didn't expect you to do it straight away so no problem there.
If you email me (I think you can see my email on here, but if not, just post
here and I will email you instead) if/when you need the money I can send
you quick instructions for requesting it from me then. That's simpler than
trying to get your head around it all if you don't use it a lot! Thank you
again for doing this, I really appreciate it!
Best wishes
Sally

Thank you Marie and Ann. That's a great site. I've looked on it today
extensively, but didn't find much. However, I do have a 1910 census from
Connecticut where their names are listed. They are as follows:
Michael Palmer (father) born abt 1876 Italy
Mary Palmer (mother) born abt 1864 Italy
Louis Palmer (son) born abt 1889 Buenos aires
Michael Palmer (son) born abt 1891 Buenos Aires
Charles Palmer (son) born abt 1892 Buenos Aires
August Palmer (son) born abt 1893 Buenos Aires
Nicholas Palmer (son)

Seeing this post about the 1895 census, I checked it for the first time and found my family there. They too were Italian immigrants and eventually went to California.
I'd appreciate help from someone who reads Spanish to look at the occupation of my ancestor and tell me what it is. If you search on first name Martino and surname Domenico, he comes up (born 1859, Italy). They actually swapped his given name and surname in the census. Or, here is the link to the search results, - he's the first one.

Hi there,
I am trying to locate the names of some ancestors. My husband's great
grandfather, Nicholas Palmer, was born in 12 Jan 1895 in Buenos Aires. His
parents were Italian immigrants. In 1899, they came to the United States
and settled in Connecticut. I found a census from 1910 that states the
parents names were John and Mary Palmer. These names don't sound very
Italian. So I think that possibly they changed their names somewhere down
the line. I was thinking that possibly if I could get a copy

There are several Palmero families which may support your change of name
suggestion(also Palmier and Palmera). The census does show birth place and
there are couple born in Italy with a child born 1895 - didn't see a
Nicholas though. If any of the families look possible it may help Marie to
narrow the search.
