Hello Charles,
My apologies if you have been trying to access my website, it is currently
out of action.
There is a Will lodged at the National Archives at Kew, London of one Aviet
Agabeg Catalogue Reference: Prob 11/1828. In it he is described as a
Merchant. He appointed his wife Hripsimah and his brother Lazar Agabeg
Executors. He made the Will in 1926 and although there is no date of death
(that I can see), it looks to me like he died in 1832.
My own records indicate that I know of 3 separate Avi
Hi Listers,
While doing some research I came across the marriage of Welsh vocalist Sarah
Edith WYNNE and Armenian-Indian lawyer Aviet AGABEG. I know a little about
the WYNNEs but nothing about the AGABEGs.
As far as I can work out Aviet was the son of a Joseph AGABEG of Calcutta.
But I can only find the name Joseph AGABEG and no details. Obvious sites
don't help, so I thought I would try you.
I must emphasise that I am not related to either the WYNNEs (well not as far
as I know, though my ancestors c
Hello Everyone
I am not new to the list, I am just using a new e-mail
address. I have found some new information on my
family, so I thought maybe it is time to re-introduce
myself. My name is Robin and I have been researching
my ancestors for 15 years. Unfortunately I have not
gotten very far with the Armenian side of my family
tree. My grandparents came to Canada around 1915. My
grandfathers name was Hrant Humpartzoomian(this
spelling is now known to be wrong), Hrant(Thomas) was
born abt 1896 in Azakpert,
Hi Liz,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Aviet AGABEG, who married Sarah Edith WYNNE, was an established
Armenian-Indian barrister. He was the first recorded Asian to enter the
Inner Temple of the Inns of Court in 1868 and wrote several important books
on the Law. In 1897 he was back in India, presumably Calcutta, and was
waiting for his wife to join him. Sadly she died suddenly just before she
planned to leave.
Aviet is recorded as being born in 1845 and the son of a Joseph AGABEG. He

Joe,
My husband's aunt had blue eyes, but she was half Russia. Her father was an
interpreter and lived very close to the Russian/Armenian border (this is back
about 1900). I don't now recall the circumstances, but some expediency
required his having a foreign wife, so he crossed the border and married the
first Russian woman he saw. And if you have ancestors from Constantinople,
there was a large Viking contingent that settled in that area in the 12th or
13th century (when they were also busy settlin
Was doing a genitic, lineage chart, when it hit me that my full blooded
Armenian Grandmother had Blue eyes. Now I recall that her mother had
brown eyes. But; I know that her mother would have had to have had a
recessive blue eye gene, at the least , for her daughter to have blue
eyes.
So my question is: how many Armenians ( full blooded, not muts like me)
have blue eyes?

Hi Listers,
We're looking for any information available on my husband's roots in Urfa, Armenia, now part of Turkey. His father was Levon Yotneghparian, whose surname was changed to Kachadourian to disguise his relationship with the Armenian hero Mgrdich Yotneghparian, and he was born 12 Mar 1890 in Ourfa.
His mother was Gassia Krikorian b. 7 Feb 1897 in Ourfa, Turkey. Both his parents emigrated to Germany, where they met and were married.
Any information on the Yotneghparian, Kachadourian and Krikori
As I mentioned before, I have this old book about Armenia and so I
thought I better give the reference information here now before I pack
it up with all the other stuff going into storage due to our impending
move.

Hello Robin,
My husband's father, born 1895, also came from Turkey to
Brantford, probably around the same time as your grandfather. He had
relatives in Brantford at that time and also afterward. We have a friend
who was born in Brantford and lived there for many years before
immigrating. She lives not far from us and we will send her your message
to find out if she knows anything about your grandfather's hometown. Her
family may have known him.

Hello to the list:
Does any one have any information on the name RESCHIGLIAN?? It is my mother's maiden name. She is still alive and came over to the USA from Northern Italy (Padua/Padova). I have information on her family that she remembers, but that is very limited and sketchy. Would appreciate any help!
Thank you,

Dear List-Members:
I've been watching the traffic on this list, and it's good to see
messages go back and forth from time to time...
I've been meaning to post that I received an old book (pre-1900) which
talks about the Armenians in Turkey, but I don't have all the specific
info on it right now to post here.
What I wanted to post was a message that I'll be moving from the US to
Germany very soon. I might be out of contact with this list for a
while, but the messages will (at least) pile up in my Yahoo!
Hi Everyone
My name is Robin, and I am trying to find someone who may know about the town where my grandfather was born. My grandfathers name was Hrant Humpartzoomian or Hampartzoumian born 1896 in Astagbert, Keghi, Erzurum, I am not sure if this is the exact spelling of the town. The only information I had on this town was a translation off my grandfathers grave stone, which was the village of the stars. Hrant fled from Turkey to Canada and settled in Brantford, Ontario, date unknown. I am wondering if an
I am new to the list. These are the Armenian names in my husband's family tree: DERDERIAN, OUZINIAN, TATIROSSIAN, SUMERGASHIAN, MARKARIAN (MARKAY), TORIGIAN, PARIGIAN, KAZANJIAN, OUNJIAN, HAGOPIAN, JAFFARIAN, KRIKORIAN, BAGDASERIAN, BABIKIAN, POSTIAN, TERZIAN.
The first six names are the earliest generations on which we have information, dating back to the late 1800's. These early ancestors were all from Adana and moved to Watertown, Massachusetts and the New York City/New Jersey area. I would be interest
Hello All,
Is this the first message to the list in the New Year? I recently found a
piece of paper on which someone had written the names of my
great-grandparents. The maiden name of my great-grandmother is different from
what I had been told. If I have deciphered the handwriting correctly the
names are:
Hagopjon ARIKIAN and Loocin SALBARZARIAN. My grandfather's name was written
as Minazagun ARIKIAN (He was known as Minas). There was also another child's
name as Olsona.
My questions are:

Intention for Naturalization from NYC dated Dec 9 1920 in which he lists the
ship 'Martha Washington' arriving port of NY in June (day unreadable) 1909.
I have searched the Ellis Ilsand Data Base and have not been able to find
his name. I tried numerous spellings. I also checked the "SS Martha

on the Interenet and have not been able to find him. My grandfat
Hi Dayne
What was his first name? I can do some poking on Ellis Island site -
Unbelievable the variations in spelling (mostly because of illegible
manifests) that I found for Ohanian/Aharonian/Aronian etc family names!

Dear Listers,
I can now report that following nearly 2 years of transcription work and
translation from Armenian to English, the early baptism register for the
Armenian Church in Calcutta for the period November 1793 to October 1859 has
now been completed and is on the fibis website in its entirety for all to
access. www.fibis.org. I believe this is the first time that the whole
register has been translated into English, so it will hopefully give your
Armenian genealogy research a boost, I sincerely hope
This is simply an issue of transliteration. Armenian names are spelled in
Armenian, thus any rendering of those names in English (or other languages)
requires a transliteration that can vary depending on location. Note that my
name is spelled "yan" and truthfully I believe this was done solely for
aesthetics (i.e. "aya" versus "aia").
