I came across an incredible file this
past weekend regarding Arnots/Arnotts/Arnets/Arnetts, as I was doing
some
genealogy research on the Internet. It purports to contain all the
recorded events,
such as births, deaths, christenings, and marriages, from 1998 going
back as far as
available, specif

Hi Scott,
Your so welcome, glad it was a good post! I will try to do that more often,
just seems no time left in the day for computer after working all day and
house chores!
People send them to me, or on my surfing the net I find great stuff. You
know how it is, you go searching for something and you end up somewhere else
totally off the track of what you went in search of! Hee hee.
Yes I got the computer back with still some problems, seems the programer
are not the best at repairing! always something wro

In my case, the surname is a real mess. I'm fairly sure I've traced my
lineage in the
U.S. back to Peter Arnot (sometimes spelled Arnout), who died in Orange
Co. NY in
1764. I don't know if he was the original Scottish immigrant, but I'm
inclined to think
it was one of his ancestors.
A few generations later (3, I think), the name has been changed to
Arnott (i.e.,
another "t" added). A couple of generations after that, it became
Arnett (i.e., with
I don't believe this is one of my relatives, but I'm curious about the entry. I've never seen anything like it and don't understand the abbreviations and what it all means. Could you fill me in?
Thanks.

P.S. I assume you do have a copy of Peter Arnout's/Arnot's will, don't you?? If not, let me know, and I'll send it to you. It's just a transcription, but I believe someone is sending me a copy of the original via snail mail. If I get it and you'd like a copy, I'll send it to you.

Hello,
Thought this was interesting to know.
QUESTION: A cemetery in Oklahoma has "Order of the Woodsman" markers
on some tombstones. What does that mean?
ANSWER:
It means she was once a Woodmen member, that is, they had life insurance
with Woodmen. The term Sov. means sovereign which was a courtesy title
all Woodmen members have. If you are a Woodmen member you are a
sovereign. It was used quite a bit the first half of this century but is
rarely used today.
Someone wanted to know this on another list
