I trace back to a Jacob Arnot born 1790 died 1855 buried in Pine City cemetary in Chemung. I only can identify his oldest son James H. born in 1812. He shows first in 1820 Towanda census with wife and son. Later he shows in 1830 and 1840 with 6 kid in Monore township. We may tie together in 1700's but who knows. A

I live ten miles from Towanda. I can check the Pine City Cemetary for you; it is 45 minutes from me. I can check county records there for you. Elmira, NY is 45-60 minutes in the other direction where many of the Arnot line settled and did well for themselves. The local mall (the closest to me) in Elmira is named the

Arnot owned one of the best known livery & boarding stables in St.
Louis. They had a fine line of carriages, coupes,
barouches, buggies for use in weddings, balls, concerts, shopping,
etc., but their speciality was funeral services. Being
the only undertaker in the midwest who had a four-horse hearse,
Arnot took it to Springfield, Illinos for the funeral of
President Abraham Lincoln. He knotted his reins so that he could
drive the four horses with one hand,

ARNETT, GWEN A former Jackson area resident, died Tuesday, December 4, 2001
at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac, she was 55. The former Gwen Jackson was born
December 21, 1945 in Jackson. She had been a resident of the Mesick,
Cadillac and Manton areas for the past 30 years. Survivors include three
children, James, Glen and Beth; brother, Steve; sisters, Pat Millbauer and
