Hi Joanne: I transcribed both of the census' a long time ago, and my son put it on the webpage for me, so I'll let him know. He planned to do some more work on the website, so I'll get him to change it for you. I would hope that any other errors be brought to my attention.
The "T" and "L" both looked alike, and I couldn't tell just what it was, and Lowry was the most common, so that was how I transcribed it.
For 1860 and 1870 Polk Co. Census', use website http://www.geocities.com/t_tull
Hello List,
I am not native to AR and have little information on the geography.
Does anyone know where I might locate printable maps of Polk County as
it changed over the years? (where it came from and how it's borders
changed)
Thanks,
Beverly

Shirley, I enjoyed your story on the Shults/McDaniel families, although I do
not descend from them. My families are Benjamin F. McCraven and all of his
19 children, and the James Waggoner family and their children from
(1821-1873 in Polk County. It should be noted though that Polk Co. AR was
not organized until 1844. Prior to that, it was Sevier County, AR. My
ancestors were in Sevier Co until 1844, then it became Polk County. They
lived in the Sulphur Springs area of Polk, which became Howard Co. AR i

I think your George Washington Crawford and my gg-grandmother
Miranda Crawford were brothers and sisters. Miranda was the mother

Did George Washington and Miranda have brothers and sisters?
Do you know if Miranda came on to AR?

I see several of you writing about information on the Shults and McDaniel
families. Some of you may be new to the group so I will tell you again that
I wrote a story on these families in the October and the November (99)
issues of The Mountain Signal. The names you mentioned are in there, along
with the rest of their family, and many pictures. The story is primarily
on Joseph R. Shults. I will relate a small portion of it below this
message, and if you would like to order copies you can send $3 for EAC

Hello....in checking the 1870 Polk Co. census I found on page 68, dwelling
441 the family of James & Elizabeth J. Hilton from TN. Living in the same
house was a child, male of 12 named S.C. Thornton born in AR and another
child, a female, of 10 named N.J. Johannah also born in AR.
I'm interested in any information on the S.C. Thornton. How he was related
to this family, who his parents may have been. Anything would help.
This is a long shot and I'm really reaching, but hey, if you don't
try.........
There is a Towery Families of American newsletter which is published three
issues a year.
Each issues has between 55 & 60 pages. Dues are $15.00 a year. And, they
are always looking for new
cousins and try to give whatever help they can.
If you are interested you should contact Della Guise.
