Well folks, if ever I felt like saying "I told you so; now is the time."
When the money coming in wasn't enough to even begin to keep up with the
cost of the keeping the Rootsweb servers up and running, we went to
"clusters," and "banners" for advertising. (A very dumb move I thought
then and I still think.) We had dozens of boards none of us who actually
work at this wanted and we sure as heck didn't need them. I really do
understand why that was financially necessary. Well - that didn't

Hi, am sending this to several list in hopes of getting a reply. I
found my gggrandfather's tombstone in Otero CO but it is simply a
large
star about 2' x 2' with the initials U S in the lower portion. In
all
the cemeteries I have been to, I have never seen anything like this.
Even the cemetery caretakers had no idea. There is no info on his
death
certificate, he died 1931. I have not been able to locate an
obituary.
He was born in Indiana.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I am so grateful for people like you. You are appreciated tremendously and
probably more than you will ever know. I am a newbie to computers and
research (less than 6 months) and these lists and the free information on
the internet is so important and practically irreplaceable to me. I cannot
afford to pay subscription fees and do not use credit cards anyway because
of my low income. I don't believe I would have ever been able to do my
family history (filled with brickwalls because of nativ

This was in Tues, 8 May, Springfield MO News Leader, p. 5B:
Discovery of cemetery halts roadwork--Associated Press-Kansas City--
Construction of a new highway in south Kansas City has been halted by the

On the outskirts of mean, AR was a Methodist Episcopal congregation called
Millers Chapel. There is a photo of it -
I wonder if anyone has any information about this Methodist congregation.
When the church building burned, it was not rebuilt and the folks joined
other denominations.
Kind regards,

Since I've just found out that I have ancestors who lived in Wickes, I'd
like to learn more about the community. It appears to be a pretty small
place, according to my map. Cany anyone tell me a bit more about this town?
I've just learned that my great grand parents lived in Wickes, AR in 1902
when their daughter, Olive, was born. I'd like to learn more about the
Peppers and Bryant families in Polk Co. Any additional information would be
most appreciated.

Hello all,
As many of you have no doubt discovered, the GenConnect boards as we
knew them no longer exist. I am very sorry to have to report that all
posts to those boards, whether obits, bios, etc., have been moved to
boards at Ancestry.com. Actuall, all the posts to the GenConnect boards
have been lumped into one board at Ancestry/My Family.com. This happened
last week. Today is the first day I have even been able to view any of
the boards. I have not yet been able to "adopt" my own boards. Besides
