3. Re: [ASHBY] Ashby, John of Stafford Co., VA - #17 on card index [1]
Helen - I do have a subscription to Footnote so took a quick look at their Revolutionary pensions although this is not an Ashby line I have looked at previously. They also list no Capt. John ASHBY from Stafford Co. which is still not to say that there wasn't one. I have to wonder if we are conflating some John Ashbys. There was a John Ashby b. abt 1707 in Stafford County who apparently did achieve the rank of Capt. during the French and Indian war. He and his wife moved later to Fauquier , I believe
4. [ASHBY] Pilgrim Research [1]
EMAILING FOR THE GREATER GOOD Join me Pilgrim Ancestors by Michael John Neill My family never passed down any stories of Pilgrim forebears. Since 75 percent of my ancestors were mid-nineteenth-century immigrants, its not surprising. I never even gave any serious thought to having ancestors on the Mayflower. My genealogy research was not started out of any desire to have "famous" or "first" relatives, and in most cases I had difficulty getting back to the 1700s in my American lines much less the 1620s.

Nena, On the previous post to the list regarding Capt John Ashby (b. 1740) you listed paragraphs of information plus links to the source. 17. Re: [ASHBY] Duncan Johnson, Randolph Johnson, Elizabeth Ashby [1]
Hi Sue. Do you know that Capt John Dunkin (Duncan) family was in PA in 1700s during Amer Rev, and moved to VA about 1800. The Ashby family was in VA 1700s and 1800s. Both groups moved on to KY and then MO by 1830s, 1840s, and many Ashbys were on the Oregon Trail 1850s to 1860s. I would guess that Duncan Johnson had a Duncan mom or grandmother. My Duncan descendant (Faithful Sharp Duncan) married a Lock (Abraham Lock) in VA, whos dau (Faithful Duncan Lock b.1805) then married a James Ashby of VA before movi
18. [ASHBY] Duncan Johnson, Randolph Johnson, Elizabeth Ashby [1]
I'm writing to all three lists because I have not gotten very far on finding information on my Johnson/Ashby ancestors. Specifically, I'm trying to find out the following: 1. Where my Duncan Johnson and family came from in Tennessee before going to Jefferson Co., Alabama. He had the following children that I know of: Randolph, Rudolphus, George Cunningham Johnson, Mary Elizabeth Johnson and possibly a John Johnson. Maybe others. 2. Who were Duncan Johnson's parents, when and where was he born...
19. Re: [ASHBY] Duncan Johnson, Randolph Johnson, Elizabeth Ashby [1]
I'm sorry it took me so long to reply. Thanks for writing. Well, the only thing about the Ashby family moving to Kentucky is that my Ashby/Johnson group went down to Alabama from Tennessee - at least, my Johnson's did. I'm not sure about Elizabeth Ashby. I don't know how or when or where they got together. You're right - Duncan could have been Duncan Johnson's mother's maiden name, however, Duncan is also a Scottish name and my Johnson's were definitely Scottish. Sue Howard ----- Original Messa

A couple or so, of his grandson's (William, son of Daniel) was in GA with my group. Was yours one of those, or was yours one of them that went to MO, OR or TN? My line has 'daughtered' out. Capt. James of Kings Mtn. had a James who went to Union Co.GA and wound up in what is now Habersham Co. His son John Jubilee only had two sons, one of wh

Ashby Gap http://www.geocities.com/heartland/estates/4308/ashbygap.html Fr:Donald Ashby-Nena: Here is what is on the Historical Marker at the top of Ashby Gap. Ashby's Gap was named in honor of John Ashby, a leader among local pioneers and reputedly the first person to haul a hogshead of tobacco through this gap. Part of the house standing just to the south may have been erected in the 1740's by Thomas Ashby or his son, John. Occasionally the house was known as Ashby's Tavern, as was one in P
