Hi everyone,
My interest in the ASHDOWN surname starts with Mary born 29.3.1746 in Mayfield,Sussex. She married Thomas Dann my ancestor. Her parents were William 29.9.1719 and Mary Pratt. William was the son of Alexander (Burwash 1693) and Ann Forster.
I was born in London in 1936 and moved to Australia with my husband and 4 children in 1972. We now live on nearly 20 acres near the historic town of Ballarat in Victoria. Home of the Eureka Stockade and Sovereign Hill.
Just wondered if anyone was rese
Hi Everyone,
Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and/or holiday season.
I have uploaded the latest edition of the Ashdown Heritage web pages. I
think I have all the lineages, websites and brickwalls you have sent in
included and there is quite a bit on the research pages. Lots more to add
yet and hopefuly (when I work out how to do it) a search engine will be added.
Don't hesitate to let me know what I am doing wrong, it's the only way I'll
learn - but please be gentle or I'll cry ;-)
Kind Regards
My connection with the Ashdown family starts with George Ashdown (my 3rd
great grandfather), who was born it is believed in St Paul's Cray, West
Kent Parish, Kent in England in about 1804. Very little is known of his
parentage. It is believed that George was the son of George Ashdown. This
assumption is based on the death certificate of a James Ashdown, believed
to be a nephew, who was witness to two of the weddings that took place in
Beechworth of children of Ellen Ashdown, George's daughter.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the delay. I now have our Ashdown website back on line. It only
has a few bits in it at the moment - some 1891 census information (thanks
Norma) in the research pages and the web site links (ours and others) have
a bit in. Let me know if you can see any glaring problems.
There is heaps of information to add but I am working full time and we are
getting electrical storms in the evening so it is cutting down on available
computer time. I'll add bits to it as I get the time.

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to the new Ashdown-UK mailing list. I am Mary Rogers (nee

address if you have any problems or questions you would like to speak to me
privately about.
We now have 12 subscribers so it is a good time to get an idea of what you
would like to see (or make) happen.
My initial aim is to try to assemble all of the data about we can gather
about the Ashdown family and it's origins in the UK into one place and for

Hi All
I have a similar problem with the ASHDOWN and DALTON names in the Crayford
and Swanley areas of Kent. John ASHDOWN married Susan DALTON in 1823
Sutton-at-Hone. Ellen Matilda, their daughter, is sometimes referred to as
ASHDOWN, sometimes as DALTON. John is referred to on Ellen's marriage
certificate as John ASHDOWN DALTON. John's occupation was given on one
occasion as musician, on another as labourer. Ellen Matilda married
Cornelius TAGG in 1845 and they emigrated with 4 boys to Sydney in 1855 on

I am looking for a JAMES ASHDOWN who was nominated as the father of George SHEDER (SHEADER) from Mary SHEDER in IDEN Sussex born 1814. This George arrived in Australia as SHEADER and then changed his name to ASHDOWN within 2-3 years of arriving. He brought with him a wife JANE (CARMAN ) whom he married in 1835. They had with them 2 children James, and Mary Jane who later became my great grandmother when she married George MILLS who had originated from Widford Oxfordshire, born 1829.
That is a short h

I would be particularly grateful for any information about Pat/Philip/Barbara
ASHDOWN (my cousins) who I think would have been born just before or during
WW2 in SE London. Their father, Charlie, was working about 1950 at Sidcup, Kent
firestation.

Hello Listers
My roots are set down in Withyham and Rotherfield and in the 1851 census my
ggggrandfather's address was merely shown as 'edge of forest'. My
grandfather was the first to move away from the area and that was only as
far as Brighton.
If you visit my site you can follow my line back to John ASHDOWN who was
baptised at St Denys, Rotherfield in 1704 and married Mary Ovenden in 1729.
There were several 'Johns' around at that time and I have yet to establish
which of three ways back is the correc
