Hello again, Thank you for the suggestions and detailed information on where
to find the birth record of Isaiah Atwood and the will/probate record of his
father Richard Atwood. I will make some phone calls this week so that I can
head to the correct town hall. I also plan to look for Richard's will or the
probate papers so these addresses should help. Will save me lots of needless
running around on the Cape. If I am successful I will update you.
Many thanks. Barbara

Question for the Atwood experts out there....
in talking to my bro-in-law about family crests, etc. he mentioned that he
remembers his dad showing him a picture of what is supposed to be the
symbol for the Atwood family. He describes it as a log, similar to a
fireplace log in size, with a forked branch sticking out of the top. Does
anyone know exactly what he is talking about?
Thanks for your help.
Mary
Hello, I am hoping that some of you Atwood descendants can help me with
this. I am trying to document that Isaiah Atwood is the son of Richard and Mary
Atwood. I soon plan to head to Wellfleet and Eastham, MA to search for the
birth record of Isaiah Atwood born 11 July 1759 in Eastham, MA. Is the town hall
of Eastham or Wellfleet, MA where I should go to find a record of birth?
Isaiah was married 27 Oct. 1789 in Wellfleet to Abigail Atwood, daughter or
Eleazar Atwood and Abigail Atwood.

Mary,
I am no expert, but I would imagine that different branches of the Atwood
family have developed their own individual Coat of Arms. The one affiliated
with my branch actually looks like a shield with plums or fleurs-de-lis
surrounding the shield. A helmet is above the shield with two tree sprigs coming
from a small log sitting on top of the helmet. The colors were blue and gold.
The research I have done on this seems to indicate that there are often
times a number of different Coats

I would call each of the town halls and ask what records they have available.
Eastham was the original town, but Wellfleet was later 'cut' from there.
