1. Re: [AUS-CON] BARRY & WOODCOCK - Seeking information [1]
John, Biographies of the convicts of the Marquis Cornwallis have been published in the following: Barbara Hall "A Desperate Set of Villains. The Convicts of the Marquis Cornwallis, Ireland to Botany By, 1796" (2000). It includes quite a bit of information about Joseph Barry, including that he was a tailor and that he was tried at Mullingar, County Westmeath in March 1795. No details of his offence. He spent time on Norfolk Island as a result of his participation in a colonial uprising. (Hall, pp.27-29)

The list is in date order first then name order. Source - FIRST FLEET FAMILIES OF AUSTRALIA - CONTAING DETAILS OF 456 FIRST FLEETERS AND THEIR CHILDREN & GRANDCHILDREN by Dr. C.L. SMEE (1988). Please keep Dr. Smee's name on this list if you post it anywhere else. I imagine he or she put a lot of hard work into tra

9. [AUS-CON] Re: "unknown" deaths [1]
Sorry if my message was misinterpreted as only relating to convicts, tramps, etc - as pointed out, it could apply to anyone found dead in an isolated area --- the one case I discovered for someone involved a man working out in the bush who had had an accident. The person I di the research for knew when it had happened but couldn't find a death registration. I found out the registration district for the second marriage of his widow which took place soon afterwards, and then put in the year range and
10. [AUS-CON] Re: Female Factory Records - Compiled by Joan Reese. [1]
Hello, I hope someone can help me. I have looked up the microfiche for the above records and have found my relative on the index. I was wondering if anyone can tell me where I can locate the papers the index refers to. Page 169 of the Index Nowland, Ann Ship: Elizabeth Ref: 28/7720 Shelf: 4/1994 Year: 1828 On the bottom of the page it has written REF = Colonial Secretary Letter/Number or Archives Office Reel No. As this is an index I'm presuming there are papers somewhere I just don't know whe
11. Re: [AUS-CON] Fw: Introduducing myself and Samuel Dodd [1]
Hi Betty According to her trial report, one of my convicts in 1836 was held in "Clerkenwell prison" which I finally worked out must have been the Clerkenwell House of Detention. This was a remand prison where prisoners were held awaiting their day in court and my convict's trial was held in the Central Criminal Court (ie at Newgate prison) in April 1836. If you can't find a trial actually AT the Clerkenwell H of D, then it might be worth a look to see if the term "Clerkenwell Court session" meant " court

19. Re: [AUS-CON] Female Factory Births [1]
Cate I hope you got something out of the program. I thought we did mention the lists but maybe we didnt I believe there is a list of female convicts from the female factory at the State records office, and I think the SAG also have them. Saying that, I have an ancestor who gave birth there and she is not on the list. I only know that she was there because it was stated on the birth certificate of her child. hope this all makes sense and I hope it is of some help. Kaye See the "latest program" on Shanagolden

I presume Elizabeth died prior to 1828 as I cannot find her on the census. Also James HOWLETT came out per the "Larkins" in 1817 he married Catherine He
25. [AUS-CON] The Floating Brothel [1]
In the book the Floating Brothel the Lady Julian left London in July 1789 by itself. It took a slow and leisurely trip to NSW and arrived about the same time as the horrific second fleet. I do not think it is either first or second fleet but the arrival of an isolated convict ship.
