1. [AUS-MELB] Yan Yean [1]
I would welcome suggestions about where to search for information about my greatgrandparents who had my grandfather in Yan Yean in October 1866 while they were there from NZ. They had been married in January 1866. He was John McNaught and his wife was Ann Jennings and my grandfather born there was James Gordon McNaught. The next child in the family was born back in NZ, 2 years later. We wonder what took them there in 1866 - Great-grandfather was a woolclasser - did he go there for a job or what? I'd

Hi Robert, Thanks to this sooooooo helpful List, I have learned that the book written by Guy Gibson was in actual fact called "Enemy Coast Ahead" published by Pan books in 1955. There were earlier and later publication dates. Blessings, Leona in Toowoomba -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.
4. [AUS-MELB] swanson family [1]
Has anyone got George Sutherland Swanson for an ancestor? He died in Collingwood in 1942 aged 77. His father was Sinclair Swanson who was the paternal great grandfather of my husband Don. I'm actually hunting for George's sister Helen who was aged 5 when their family left Scotland in 1875 for New Zealand on the "Nelson." George was 9 years old when they left Scotland. The parents Sinclair and Margaret Swanson left Scotland with 8 children but one died very early in the voyage. They had 3 more children

Hi Lyall, There is one George Henry Lee who arrived aboard the "James Baines" in Feb 1855. His age was listed as adult so that could mean anything. There are many George Lees listed. Can you give me an approx date of birth so I can eliminate some? This info is from the Unassisted shipping index 1852-1879, so assisted shipping may be the way to go. Jenny Boyer Harkaway, Victoria

Dear Listers (on 3 separate lists), My grandfather William Peter JEFFERY (born May 1867 and raised perhaps in the Geelong District) was reputed to have a brother who was a JOCKEY. Can someone please help me get started in searching for jockeys of this surname. - Did they have to be registered? - Were the successful ones at least written up in the papers of the time. - When did a central racing authority get established? - etc, etc. With
