2. List of Waterloo,Crimea,VC Veterans- Goulburn [1]
Hi All, A while ago Kerrie Alexander asked for Waterloo Veterans. Others on the list sounded like they may have been interested in any names found so I have posted this to the list. I found the names in a book by Ransome T. Wyatt "The History of Goulburn, NSW" first published in 1941. The edition I have on loan from Wollongong Uni Library is a 1972 edition. At the end of the book he has biographical notes on some people from the Goulburn area. I have expanded the list to include most of those mentioned w

4. WWI 18 year olds and parental consent [1]
One of my Illawarra volunteers has stated that he repeatedly attempted to enlist at Victoria Barracks but was told to go home and get parental consent. This wasn't forthcoming so he enlisted when the need for such consent was removed for 18 year olds. Can someone please tell if and when this change was made? tia Viv -- Vivienne Caldwell http://www.zip.com.au/~viv

Can anyone tell me how to find details of the VC awarded to Captain Arthur Edward DOUGLAS (c1835-1/12/1898). He is an ancestor of a friend of mine (non-modemised), and the only knowledge of the VC that the family has is the inscription on his headstone in Waverley Cem, Sydney. Any help would be appreciated. Hi Ian and List Thanks for the list of military men from Wyatt's book. Regarding the Napoleonic/Waterloo men: ALLMAN certainly fought in the Peninsula and I think was a popular police magistrate in the Illawarra. Henry FOSTER of the 28th - his Waterloo Medal and Military General Service Medal are on display at Paddington Barracks, Sydney I haven't been able to prove the claims of Andrew Gibson & Joshua Moore after a fair bit of research. Many books state MOORE was at Waterloo but in June 1815 he was

21. Aboriginal Victoria Cross Winner? maybe!!! [1]
I have recently heard that an Australian Victoria Cross winner was Aboriginal. T.C. Derrick who was born in South Australia. When I checked "They dared mightily" there was no mention of it. I then rang my grandfather who was a member of the AIF in WW2 and asked him if he knew anything. His reply was that everyone in the AIF knew Derrick was aboriginal even though I hadn't even mentioned the name. He was stunned that no book ever mentioned it. Is anyone able to shead some light on this, and why does any r
