Hi List
Does anyone have an Army List for any time between about 1800 and 1815?
I'm trying to find out if a Thomas Joseph Murray was an officer in the army
during this time.
Thank for your help

Hi All,
A while ago Kerrie Alexander asked for Waterloo Veterans. Others on the
list sounded like they may have been interested in any names found so I
have posted this to the list.
I found the names in a book by Ransome T. Wyatt "The History of Goulburn,
NSW" first published in 1941. The edition I have on loan from Wollongong
Uni Library is a 1972 edition. At the end of the book he has biographical
notes on some people from the Goulburn area. I have expanded the list to
include most of those mentioned w

One of my Illawarra volunteers has stated that he repeatedly attempted
to enlist at Victoria Barracks but was told to go home and get parental
consent. This wasn't forthcoming so he enlisted when the need for such
consent was removed for 18 year olds. Can someone please tell if and
when this change was made?

Can anyone tell me how to find details of the VC awarded to Captain Arthur
Edward DOUGLAS (c1835-1/12/1898).
He is an ancestor of a friend of mine (non-modemised), and the only
knowledge of the VC that the family has is the inscription on his headstone
in Waverley Cem, Sydney.
Any help would be appreciated.

This change was made on 6 May 1918. Prior to that boys aged between 18 and
21 required parental consent. Enlistments in May 1918 jumped to 4,8
Hi Ian and List
Thanks for the list of military men from Wyatt's book. Regarding the
Napoleonic/Waterloo men:
ALLMAN certainly fought in the Peninsula and I think was a popular police
magistrate in the Illawarra.

Hello AUS-MILITARY Mailing List & Subscribers
I will try to be brief, What I am after is some information on the 2/24th
Infantry Battalion. (? 9th Division - 26th Australian Infantry Brigade -
2/24th Infantry Battalion).
I am trying to piece together the time my father spent during WW2 years, my
memories of my father was that of a sickly man who would run out side when a
plane flew over trying to shoot it down with a broom, and a man who would
sit crying when a war movie was on Television.

Hi all,
I'm researching Patrick O'Keefe a soldier b 1813 in Ireland.
On his children's birth certificates he is called:
1834 in Portsea, Hampshire - a military man
1840 in South Australia - soldier
1846 in Brisbane - soldier
On his death certificate 1879 in Hobart it reads
'Pensioner'.
Nowhere have I found a regiment number which is what I need
for his military information. Failing certificates, how can
I find this information?
Thank you,
Irene

I have recently heard that an Australian Victoria Cross winner was
Aboriginal. T.C. Derrick who was born in South Australia.
When I checked "They dared mightily" there was no mention of it. I then rang
my grandfather who was a member of the AIF in WW2 and asked him if he knew
anything. His reply was that everyone in the AIF knew Derrick was aboriginal
even though I hadn't even mentioned the name. He was stunned that no book
ever mentioned it.
Is anyone able to shead some light on this, and why does any r

I have just received information concerning my GGrandfather Thomas NAUGHTON
He was, according to his will a Chelsea Pensioner. Further details are that
Thomas was a private attached to the 9th detachment of Enrolled Pensioners
of the Fencible Force (sent to New Zealand 1852) The shipping list states he
was of the 17th Dragoons Regiment. His will states it was the 17th Lancers.
Could anyone advise me where to start looking for information regarding the
Regiments & also Chelsea Pensioners.
Thanks
