I am endeavoring to trace the origin and ancestors of Samuel Gifford KEANE
who was born in Sydney in 1841.
His father and mother were Timothy G.KEANE & (Mrs) Frances Keane.
There could be a link to the Reverend John Espy KEANE, the first minister
over the blue mountains and who was responsible for establishing Holy
Trinity Church ,Kelso, but to date have been unable to find one.
Descendents of Samuel Gifford Keane settled in the Bathurst/Orange area.

Could you mean Goobang? There is a Goobang cemetery just outside of Parkes,
but no headstones etc. My husband has a few anscestors buried there.
Currajong Billabong was the original settlement before Parkes became Parkes
but I am told there is nothing remaining. Welcome was the other settlement,
there are a few old houses still there and the old schoolhouse but nothing
else. I have the address of the Parkes Historical Society if you are
interested.

I'm looking for these names around Mudgee, but also perhaps in the
Richmond/Windsor area. I've been pretty lucky so far with Samuel NIXON, who
was transported in 1818 for highway robbery, but the background of the lady
he married, Charlotte RAYNER remains a mystery. Any assistance gratefully
received!

Hi Helen
I very much enjoyed your response regarding Canada to Australia migration.
When I began to think about it, I realised that the the Cowichan Valley
where I live on southern Vancouver Island was pioneered by many settlers who
arrived here from Australia. The very street I live on (Philip Street) was
named for Philip Clement HOLMES whose mother Susan Abercrombie NAGLE was
baptised in Sydney, Australia, May 1840. She and her husband, David HOLMES,
homesteaded (or prempted as they call it here) about
Are there listers out there living in Goulburn who might be able to undertake a monumental inscription lookup, please? We are seeking anything further on ALEXANDER MANSBRIDGE, died Goulburn 30/4/1859; buried at Goulburn 1/5/1859; C.of E.; Reg. No. 1859/3186.
He was a sawyer and was killed in an accident, according to the record.
Your assistance appreciated.

Re:JOHNSON
Any relation of Gus Edward JOHNSON born 1865 Surrey Hill NSW (my
grandfather) adopted son of an unknown JOHNSON. We only know Gus had a
little half brother called SYDNEY JOHNSON who would have been born in the St
Marys area of Sydney c1900. He's the one who's descendants I am interested
in contacting. He and his kin would have a common anscestor in the unknown
JOHNSON'S wife ANNE O'NEILL my ggrandmother.
Could there be any connection to Nina's William JOHNSON?

Hi List
I have a problem tracing Annie LEWIS (my great grandmother). I know she married my ggrandfather Charles GILL in 1883 in Cobar. Her parents were given as Henry Lewis and Elizabeth Lewis and her place of birth (on the marriage certificate) as Sydney. Death certificate (1935) gives the place of birth as Newtown.
My problem is that the only female child born to Henry and Elizabeth Lewis during the right time period between 1861 and 1864 (the ages on the certificates are also inconsistent), is an "un
My great-great Grandmother, JANE MILTON, died at Main St. MITTAGONG in April, 1902. Her death certificate states that she was buried at the Independant Cemetery, NECROPOLIS and the church was Congregational. The burial Company was Wood & Co.
Is NECROPOLIS a name of a cemetery in MITTAGONG or is it a place near MITTAGONG. I have found a cemetery in Melbourne with this name.
Hope that somebody can help.
Many thanks

Maybe advice on this should come back to the list. I know I've got
lots of certificates that aren't that old yet, but I'd like to think
that my descendants take some pride in what I've done and pass this
info 'down the line'.

Listers,
I don't know if you are aware of this site, but you can do an actual search
of actual surnames on the (mainly 1851) census of the UK - PLEASE NOTE that
the site carries a disclaimer in that it is NOT a complete index for the
whole of the UK census, although you can search 2.2 million names.

Can SKS please tell me if there is a census record or such like that could
