Just thought I would mention that I am currently reading "Morgan's Run" by Colleen MCulloch and that so far it is all about a man from Bristol who becomes a convict, spends time on a hulk in the Thames and is then transported aboard the Alexander with the First Fleet. I know it is a work of fiction, but gives a really good idea of the times and conditions. Even mentions my ancestor Lieut. John Johnstone a few times!
Can't tell you the rest of the story cos I haven't finished reading the book yet!

Hi Len and John,
The River's name is Namoi, not Nammoy. A slip of the finger, I would say,
but you might as well get it right. I lived up in that area all my life.

Hi everyone,
I have a couple of New South Wales certificates for anyone who is
interested - one is a full marriage certificate for a Harold Stanley
Campbell, farmer, to Ethel May Beard, married 13 June 1921 in Gunnedah.
Father of Harold was Thomas Campbell, and Ethel's father was James Henry
Abington Beard.
The other is a death transcription for Emily Jane Burt who died 20 April
1940 at Ashfield, NSW. Her parents were William Burt and Sarah Ward. Emily
Jane was an elderly spinster as far as I can ascert
Hi there,
I don't know if this one is yours:
Thomas Burgess, christened 1845 NSW Cof E Field of Mars, Ryde. Father
Charles, mother Lydia.
Ref #V18451089 30A and V18451097 30A.
I know that his death certificate states his father as Thomas, but that
could be a mistake. Death certificates are notorious for having wrong
information or no information, as someone other than the person themselves
gives the info. and often just don't know the correct details.
Also, sadly many marriage certificates do not show

Hello Sandy,
The only Edith Williams (no Maria) I could see was born 1871 in NSW to
William H and Elizabeth A ?
There were quite a few possible siblings for that family, but there were
also several other William and Elizabeths with issue. It would be a big job
to sort them out.
Cheers

I gave this answer only a few months ago..but here goes again:
From Place names of NSW by AW Reed
PATRICK'S PLAIN AND RIVER:
The River was discovered on St Patricks Day by John Howe and his party
SINGLETON:
Benjamin Singleton was a member of a party led by John Howe, chief constable
of Windsor, when he reached this area and named St Patrick's Plains. In 1822
Singleton settled there. 12 years later his property was subdivided and the
town of Singleton had its beginning.
