Sandra, I'd think the informant was no relation and so there is unlikely
to be a headstone. He would be listed however in the cemetery's burial
records but don't think you'd get any more personal info there about him
than you already have, except perhaps grave number. Did you find a
ticket of leave or conditional pardon for him? Would give the
magistrate's district at the time I think and help pinpoint whether he
was in Merriwa then. Sorry I can't be more helpful!
Judy.

I am trying to find information on a man Stephen Love who came to Aust from Kent England, transported for Bigamy in 1834 on the Henry Tanner.
Stephen spent some time at the Barracks in Sydney. I have now more information on Stephen until his death in 31st July 1866.
He is noted as a sheperd, death certificate says that died at the Watch House Merriwa aged about 80/90 yrs. Informat appears to be James B Bettington. Stephen did not marry again out here seems he learnt something.

Ron,
Sorry, just a bit of a typo there, should have said Louisa Pescud. You might
want to drop into the Yarramalong School one day to ask if they have any
old records on your Beaven & Bailey ancestors. They may also have spare copies
of the Yarramalong School Centenary book that you maybe able to purchase.
The Epilogue to the book is written by Harry Bailey. I have a copy because
my grandfather and another relative were teachers there plus I have other
family connections to the Yarramalong Valley.

From the deep reaches of memory, there were signs warning that the area was
used as a bombing range for the RAAF stationed at Williamstown, up to the
late 1950s.

Hello Listers
Just a general question that was brought up by a friend who is interested in
starting her family history.
When Assisted Immigrants arrived in 1850-60s, were they bonded anywhere, or
to anyone for any length of time? If so, how would one find the details?
Regards
Gwen

All,
Yes the government is currently trying to sell Gan Gan Army camp to
developers, however there is quite a push from "locals" to stop this camp

The actual camp is located near the Salamander turnoff from Nelson Bay Road,
quite close to the Tomaree Sporting Complex for those that are interested.

Dear Cherie,
The guns at Tomaree were installed by the Australian
Army not the Americans. My late father was a Staff Sergeant with the Royal
Australian Artillery & was stationed at Tomaree Head in 1942 living in tents
installing the 6" guns there at that time. From some of his notes the
Americans arrived sometime after that;they were mainly amphibious troops &
some airmen.
As for a camp at Anna Bay,I am afraid I cannot help
you. There was a radar tower somewhere in that
