1. Family Tree [1]
Hi , I am tracing my family tree and was wondering if someone can help me.My grand father Daniel O'HALLORAN of Langley Dale,Balranald married my gran mother Gertrude DUNCAN at the Court House Balranald,10 February 1904. Gertrude DUNCAN was the daughter of Fergus DUNCAN and Mary Jane McCONVILLE,.Because both her parents were dead and she was a minor, permission to wed was given by the Guardian of Minors. It appears that Gertrude was born circa 1885,however I have been unable to find any birth certificate,or b
2. Boundaries [1]
Hi Everyone (again), I have had some queries about our boundaries. The best thing I can do immediately is repeat my answer to Rootsweb when they asked me the same thing. I am not a geographer but an ethnographer. Because I am far more likely to recognise the way people move about distributing themselves the actual geographic boundaries tend to overlap and become fuzzy. For all intents and purposes the area the list is intended to cover roughly Albury north through Wagga, Temora, West Wyalong, arcing nort

Dear List, In regard to Gil's suggestion >Would anyone like to post a summary of what Riverina towns >are in what directories these days? I have included the following list of NSW towns and locations from the (02) 60 Albury phonebook. 5. Urana- LYONs [1]
Seeing Gil's request re Urana reminded me that I have a "dead end" who was also apparently in Urana possibly up to 1920's . He was Thomas LYONs, my great grandmother's brother. If anyone has knowledge of this area, or of the LYONS name I would be most grateful. I cannot determine if/when he died as the only Lyons in Urana on the BDMs does not list parents. I think he was born in SA but cannot find it on the records. (All the rest of the family were born in Kapunda/Gawler). Many thanks in anticipation..... L
6. HAY seeds....FLOOD & MARKEY [1]
I am currently chasing up my mother's family. I have James FLOOD who was a policeman in the Riverina from 1890 - 1909. He arrived from Ireland some time before 1888 but I cannot find out which ship he came on. There is a family story that he and a brother came out together but were separated when the ship arrived in Moreton Bay (Brisbane) however I have been unable to substantiate this.... I know that Const. JAMES FLOOD was posted to Silverton in 1889 where he married Norah LYONS, a barmaid, who was ori

8. Daysdale Book Look-up [1]
Dear List, I am willing to do look-ups for researcher's names of interest from the book "DAYSDALE A Brief History of the District 1886-1986". Daysdale is a small town situated approximately 25 miles north of Corowa and 25 miles south of Urana. As this book is not indexed it would be a great help if when requesting a lookup you could provide any relevant information on your family (for example; occupation, religion, timeframe when family possibly in area). Good Luck in your research Carolyn Tomlinson Albu

11. Area definition. [1]
Could somebody please give me a definition of the area that is covered by this List (also showing the main towns). At the moment I am five-sixths of the way through listing land tenure and transactions for 1900 that occurred in NSW-West and NSW-Central (as previously defined-but now I presume encroaching into the new Riverina area).Over 3,000 entries so far-so it could involve a lot of work if I have to go back and try to separate out those from the Riverina. Regards .............Rusheen.

13. family name help [1]
I have received a good number of enquiries about the Nixons over the past couple of weeks, from as far away as the US. Anyone making enquiries I can help with the Riverina Varcoes, McKenzies, Nixons and Michies, and on Dad's side Hardwicks and Rawsons. There are quite a few more of us these days, but that will do for now . . . :-) Gil

15. intros please [1]
I have just checked our Rootsweb page and there are more new members coming in all the time. It is part of my job to encourage discussion, and since I have been receiving e-mail from members off-list I am aware that we have some very interesting people here with a lot to offer. Please everyone introduce yourselves, and let's get this show on the road. Let's hope it is all chatty and friendly like some of the other groups here in WA, or over there in SA and other places. We seem to be all related to one a
16. Re: Family Tree [1]
Hi Bernie, You haven't given much info on what you have already checked to try and find your grandmother's birth record. Have you checked all states or only NSW? Have you checked for information on her parents to determine if they were born or married here and that you therefore expect her to be born in Australia and what state? Just a couple of thoughts. Goodluck with the eternal search Lee Robinson Melbourne. >From: "bohalloran" >To: AUS-NSW-RIVERINA-L@rootsweb.com >Sub

18. Phone books [1]
The on-line white pages represent an excellent resource, especially for those of us carrying out basic research and want to be looking at the spread of family names throughout particular districts. Also the White Pages CD, which can be copied onto the hard drive and installed from there to save mucking around inserting the disk all the time. Things have changed a lot over the past 20 years or so, and Deni, Finley, Tocumwal and those towns are currently in the Shepparton directly. Would anyone like to pos

Hi Gil and other listers My name is Jenny and I live in rural Victoria. I am currently researching my ex hubby's line for my children. 23. James Wilson, Narrandera ~1881 to 1933 [1]
I am trying to trace the parents of a James Wilson who turned up in Narrandera around 1881 - a drover - married an Edith Watts in 1882 - they had a number of children - for a time James worked for the Oakbank Brewery in Narrandera - and the family lived in Narrandera for most of the years through to James Wilsons death in 1933. James was apparently born in Victoria around 1859 - unfortunately there are about 23 James Wilson's born in Victoria around that time - by checking on marriages and deaths I have

I live here in Margaret River, Western Australia these days where I work as an anthropologist mainly carrying out environment monitoring and writing the social history of this district. 25. Re: Goonable Station, Urana [1]
Dear Simon, Goonambil Station was a large station situated in the south of the Urana shire, near the northern boundary of the Corowa shire. Most large stations in this area were opened up for "Closer Settlement" selection in the early 1900's, Goonambil Station included. There is still a Goonambil Station today, though I guess reduced in size from it's former glory. I have several references to Goonambil in a book I own "DAYSDALE A Brief History of the District 1886-1986" as well as a photo of the 44 stand s
