Hi I currently live in the Riverina however all my experience has been in researching Victorian ancestors so I am a bit lost at the moment. I am trying to research the NELSON family of Germanton around the early 1900's. Also the BURKE, DWYER, QUIRK and HOWE families of Finley, Deniliquin and Berrigan areas. That country around Hay was never broken up for Soldier Settlement like those places around Tuppal and Finley, so the property might still be there. An old tip, if the spelling doesn't ring any bells maybe say the word, let it roll around the tongue a bit, and listen for how the sound of it might shift and jog the memory. Most of those old timers could write a bit, and read a bit more, but there was no such thing as standard spelling until recently. There is a quote from Thomas Jefferson, who became one
