I agree, it's a fantastic site and many thanks & cheers to the wonderful
people who are doing all that work. I can't wait till they start
updating more years and then putting up some of the local newspapers,
but that'll be a long while off yet.
I have found a few notices referring to my family also, mostly family
notices. But then I haven't gone vey far into it yet.
Anyone can correct/update the information, if you zoom right in you can
read the text easily (unless the ink is faded or smudged) and then fi
Hi Joanne,
There is an Annie Griffin on the Qld BDMs born in 1863 to a Thomas Griffin
and Marian McKenzie. Maybe Thomas Griffin was a brother of Patrick Griffin.
Obviously I was wrong about the ship but it was the only Griffin I could
find. If they paid their own way there will probably be no record of their
arrival in Qld.
Carol
Thank you for this. It seems that The Courier Mail only has two years available 1933 and 1934. Can you help me find the others? I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right page.
Cheers,
Margaret

Hi Carol
I now think that Annie was the daughter of Patrick and Sarah Smythe Griffin,
and was shown on Sarah's death certificate of 1925 as one of the two females
deceased - should have thought of theat earlier. Did research the other
family but it was not the one.
Cheers

Thanks Kerry
I have had a reply from a lister who knows Kingsley, still living in
Warwick. I have his address from the current electoral roll. I have
his entry in the WW2 record. The next of kin was his brother Victor.
I am now trying to find out what happened to the other siblings,
especially the girls who probably married. Kingsley is the only one
mentioned in his grandparents funeral notices.

Hello Carol
I have gone online to order the death certificate of Patrick Griffin, died
1864 and marriage certificate of Sarah Griffin and Henry Furse of 1864. I
have to download the application form and complete all the information
required when ordering historical certificates, plus having to obtain a
letter from the next of kin, or am I missing something in the instructions.
I have not ordered Qld certificates before and am used to NSW BDM ordering
of historical certificates.
I doubt if I will b
Looks like all the records are in NSW
David Barry and all his siblings all registered in NSW. including their
marriages and deaths of some of their children...
What records are you looking for in Brisbane or Qld.

Hi Carol
I found Patrick and wife Margaret on NSW State Records - age and name does
not fit so I don't think I was her.
If they were unassisted passengers are there any Qld records available
please?
Cheers

Hi Joanne,
I think you will find that you can get copies of the certificates if they
are back in the 1800s without having to have all the permissions etc. I
have forgotten what the time limit is but I think it is either 70 or 100
years after which they are available to anyone.
Carol
By golly - it is a stunning site - well spotted.
Thank you.

Joanne, well... its yeah how long is a piece of string... but depending on
the time period and the church... you might be lucky... the major churches
still have the majority of their originals... (some have been lost in the
various floods in Brisbane) Do you have a specific church in mind?? It
would pay to contact them directly certainly the major churches (cathedrals)
have genealogical enquiries sections.. if you write to them you are more
likely to get a response rather than calling.
I know though St St
Hi Carol, If your person died more than 50 years ago anyone can order the
certificates for births more than 100 years ago also. Just fill in the
forms... (the same forms are used for historical and for the regular
entries.) you can see this info on the Queensland Births deaths and
Marriages website yourself see below

You need to send only the two pages with the application details on them..
the other pages are for your information only.. (should you be applying for

I am trying to establish whether the above-mentioned John Brown was my Great Grandfather...
'My' John Brown was once a butcher at Grafton , New South Wales , Australia.
He seemingly left Grafton , some time after 1881
Perhaps he turned up in Queensland , and resumed his former trade as a butcher..
A reference to a John Brown , butcher , George Street , Brisbane , appeared in The Brisbane Courier ,
19 June 1889.
I wonder if any subscriber would have any idea how I could proceed to learn more about John Brown
Hi,
My husband's family are Reardon's but I do not think they link to
Queensland.
Message me with more info and I will try and help.

Hi List
In the 11 May 1887 Brisbane Courier is an advertisement which states that
the Brisbane Chess and Draughts Club had their AGM at 'Pulley's? Coffee
Palace' Grand Arcade. Can anyone tell me what this place was?
Thank you
Lorna
I am trying to trace some descendents of the Locke family of Warwick.
Jessie Caroline KOHLER married Roy Vivian LOCKE in 1923. Unfortunately both died young. Jessie in 1934 age 35, and Roy in 1936 age 33. I have just received their death certificates and find they had five children. None of their names appeared in Jessie's funeral notice. I have found the eldest in the 1949 electoral roll as he was mentioned in his grandparents funeral notices.
Does anyone have any information about these children.
I can't say any more (or any better) than has been said.
This site has changed everything for my family history.
I am completely hooked on Qld history 1860-1900.
What a godsend.

Fantastic project, isn't it? I can lose myself for HOURS reading
fascinating little snippets. Some even about family members!
The electronic 'translator' seems to have a bit of trouble reading the
print. I started correcting some and then (selfishly) though, hang it. I'd
much rather read.
An absolute gem. And many, many thanks to the person (?) who originally
posted the address on whatever newsgroup.
