SOLON (1855)
The Bremen bark SOLON was built at Burg, near Bremen, by J. H. Bosse, and launched on 12 April 1855. 229 Commerzlasten; 37,6 x 9 x 4,6 meters (length x beam x depth of hold). Her original owners were the brothers Frerk, Hinrich, and Bernhard Balleer, all of Vegesack, each of whom held a 1/3 share. Hinrich Balleer was her first captain, being succeeded in 1857 by J. Hello fellow travellers,
I am researching the line of my g/aunt, Annie Louisa Band (1872-1949) who married Patrick Joseph Quinlan (1865-1947). The happy couple went on to have a son, John William Quinlan (1897-1972) who married Ethel Victoria Harkness (b. 1899) at Mitchell in 1920 and I am wondering if they had any offspring??
They also had a daughter Kate Alice Quinlan (1901 - 1942, Rome) who married Gabriel Phillip Tronc (1902-1968) in 1928 in Laidley. Any children?
And what about Annie Enid Mary Q

Hi all,
I am researching the Vandersee family who sailed on the Reichstag from
Hamburg in 1876. My husband's grandmother, Maria Bertha Matilda Vandersee
was born on the ship on the way out from Germany. She did have two older
siblings - a brother, I think it was Carl, and sister Philomena and I
believe more children followed. Her father was Gotlich Ernest Vandersee, a
miner, and her mother was Amelia (Schultz). They did live in Charters
Towers after there arrival and must have lived there for some time
Daphne,
It's good to hear that someone else has that name in their family. We'll see
if you have a tie to my Hillberg/er family.
My HILLBERG/ER line comes from Gertrude HILLBERG, she was born in
Stettshausen, Hessen Germany on the 21st May 1830, and came to Australia in
1856 aboard the Iserbrook. Her parents were Johann Jacob HILLBERGER and
Gertrude BALZER. Johann Jacob's parents were Johann HILLBERGER and Maria
WEIDEN.
Gertrude had 3 siblings, Johannes, Nicholas (born 1825) and Elizabeth (born
1837). Ni
A good page for the origin of Queensland place names is at the following address:
http://www.ucaqld.com.au/~piula/Placenames/page1.htm
and it lists the origin of Steiglitz as:
Steiglitz
The German birthplace of Ferdinand Kleinschmidt who came to the Pimpama area with his parents, Carl and Justine Kleinschmidt, at the age of fourteen in 1863 is commemorated by this name, although in Germany the name is Stegelitz. Through the prosperity of his farm and sugar mill he was able to acquire a considerable area
Has anyone come across the name BELSTEAD in Queensland? If someone has access to the Qld BDM CDs I would appreciate a quick lookup for this name.
Thanks,

The only problem with this site is, despite the good information it does
give, it covers only the Qld area, from Hervey Bay to the New South Wales
border and from the Leichhardt Highway to the Pacific Ocean.
Any further north is not mentioned, yet..

I am responding to a listing made in 1999 by Yvonne ("Yvonne Edwards"

longer a valid email address.
I found this note made at rootsweb back in 1999. I am researching the
Beitzel family in Qld. Along the way someone sent me a note about Eva Betzel
and posing the question that this could be a Beitzel not Betzel person.
I ordered her death investigation from the Queensland Justice Department

Hi All,
Something I have never done is organise a Death Certificate in Qld. Could someone give me instructions on how to proceed (organising from Melbourne).

I have just seen the death certificates of three babies from one family
who all died shortly after birth. They were the daughters of Carl WENCK
and Emma WRUCK. They died 1892, 1894 and 1895. The burial place for each
was given as Dussings Farm, Engelsburg. Carl the father was a
blacksmith.
Does anyone know where this Dussings Farm is/was and why the children
would be buried there? The family would have been Lutheran.

Does anyone have connections to this family please?

anyone was researching the family.
