My dearly departed Aunt was a "working girl" in Adelaide around the 1940's according to her son - and he tells the story of her involvement in a big murder court case which headlined in Adelaide with her named as a mystery key witness which lead to the conviction and execution of the murderer - who was one of her clients and of European descent. The murder took place in some establishment in Hindley Street. In the Adelaide Truth she was dubbed "The Lady in Black". Now I'm wondering if anyone can recall t

12. Broadway Estate [1]
"Broadway Estate, Glenelg" I am researching the Taylor family whose address is given as "Broadway Estate, Glenelg" on Mary Taylor's death certificate in 1928. I am assuming that refers to The Broadway, Glenelg as it is now. Could anyone give me any details of the expansion of Glenelg in 1928 and if this Broadway Estate was a house in that street or just a general term for the area being developed at the time? Several histories of the Glenelg area do not shed any light on this.Would it be right that Mary a

24. WAS SHE A PROFESSIONAL WITNESS, or did she just have a lot of friends? [1]
Anne Dixon, signed a couple of certs - for marriages in SA 1887 and 1891 - does her signature appear on any others that you have tucked away. Perhaps if we can track her, she might turn out to be a vital clue...........or is that just a wishful thought. In my case she witnessed a marriage between Haynes and Davis in a private home, but in 1887 she witnessed a marriage at Trinity Church .......................hummmmmmmmm ?? Judy
