Hi Andy; This is spooky!! Did you see my posting to the list today regarding the same COPPINGs. My wife is descended from Edward COPPING and I have quite a lot of data on this family. How can I help. Would be happy to exchange info. Are you related? 3. [TAS-CONVICTS] William DODSWORTH [1]
I have lost a William DODSWORTH - and although I expect to find no link with Tasmania, nor convicts, it has been suggested that I don't dismiss the idea. The only documentary evidence I have of his existance after much research - covers a short-time-span of 7 years in NZ in the 1890s - probably by then a man in his early to mid forties. Could someone be so kind as to check the Convicts CD for me please? Julie M Skellern, NEW ZEALAND jools@maxnet.co.nz jqqls@hotmail.com
4. [TAS-CONVICTS] Knapsey [1]
Hi all Im trying to find further information about a James Knapsey. The list of Tasmania convicts states he was on the ship London and his convict number was 12354. I am trying to establish where he came from, when he got here and where he went. If anyone could look him up on the TAS convicts CD I would greatly appreciate it. Also are convict numbers on chronological order? Would it be fair to assume that with 12354 as a convict number he arrived shortly after someone with a number of say 11786 and short
5. [TAS-CONVICTS] quick Convict CD lookups please [1]
Hi guys and guyesses, I would like to know if my convict's partners in crime accompanied him to Tasmania. Thanks in advance Graham Dixon (Auckland, New Zealand)

Hi List, I am becoming a desperate woman. I have looked everywhere for a SYKES James born around 1822. Cannot find where. Parents Unknown. Somehow he arived in Australia, cannot find when. Or he may have been born here. I have a copy of death certificate, but no parents are given. So I thought if someone may be able to help me with a lookup to see if he came out as convict. Julie, The only two Tasmanian convicts with the surname Dodsworth were Thomas (Isabella, 1833) and Charles (Gilmore 1, 1831). 16. [TAS-CONVICTS] ROBERT IVES - convict? [1]
A Robert Ives was seemingly born in Co. Suffolk (I've been led on a Norfolk trial but that has been knocked on the head and now the other option is Suffolk). He married ???? an Ann Cowley or Ann Hoy either in Tasmania or N.S.W. - both states are used but no records to be found in 1852. They had a son named Robert Alfred born in 1853 in N.S.W. and another son James Joseph born in 1855 in Launceston, Tasmania. The family arrived in Victoria between 1855 and 1858 when the remainder of the children were bor

Hi Sue, My name is Judith Hollier and I would love some info. on convict ancestors. Your offer is very generous. I've missed your recent Archives visit but if you go again could you do a check for me? My ancestor is Henry Sheppard Ransom(e) who married Harriet Wisden at Norfolk Island 1849. I've been told they were convicts but can't access any details from Melbourne. His birth - 1825 England & hers was 1829 Brighton England. They settled at Esperance, now Dover. I'd be most grateful for any help and ha
19. [TAS-CONVICTS] Help with convict records [1]
Hello all, I have a convict, Humphry Oulton, tried for horse stealing at the Lent Assizes in Chester in 1811, sentenced to death, then pardoned and transported, left London on 4th June 1812 and gone via Rio to Hobart aboard the "Indefatigable". The only other details I have are: Land grant: NSW archives "Colonial Secretary Index, 1788-1825" - "OULTON, Humphrey - n.d. Write this information on the photocopy with references noted. 4. E-mail just noted information or snail mail photocopy. Anyone wanting this done on Saturday will need to give me details of wha
22. [TAS-CONVICTS] LEDGERWOOD [1]
Hi List Could some one who has access to the Tasmanian convicts CD please look up and see if a Charles Ledgerwood (Legerwood) is listed. He is from Hammersmith, Middlesex, U.K. and was probably transported on the Royal George (2) or Southworth (2), both arriving in VDL in 1830. I have evidence he was in the Port Phillip district in 1838 (booked for being a drunk free person, fined 5s), so if he was a convict he was probably transported for 7 years. Any help would be greatly appreciated. regards Jeff A

24. [TAS-CONVICTS] Orphanage or where? [1]
Hello List Could somebody please tell me where the illegitimate female child of a convict woman, born in 1814, would be cared for and at what age they would she be expected to leave that care? Was there an Orphanage or something similar in VDL at this time? Or was the mother allowed to look after the baby herself? The child's name was Mary Dobson and she moved to Port Phillip in 1836. I am trying to trace any early information on her and who her mother was. regards Jeff Arnold
